Well, I'd say it's more similar to AMK in most ways, but nonetheless, I'd recommend giving SGM (Sigerious Mod) a try for Call of Pripyat. The only downside to the mod is that you'll have to find English translations for it that are scattered across the forums, but once you do, it's great mod.

If you're looking for something a bit more "L.U.R.K.-ish" though, then I'd say CoP: Redux.

Take my word as well as Holden's on blowouts. They're more trouble than they're worth to implement in SoC. Sure, they're in some overhauls like the fabled AMK, but their implementation is quite subpar, amounting to some areas not even having any form of shelter, and others having so little which usually amounts in NPCs constantly huddling in cover and fighting each other. This includes the chance of some important quest giving NPCs being caught in the crossfire, which could potentially leave some parts of the game unplayable when they pass away. And it's almost impossible to create some legitimate shelter points on the areas that lack them, because those areas mostly contain wide open landscapes and very very small concealed areas. I tried my best to make some more areas, but the radius either ended up being too big which caused NPCs to hide outside of the area in question and be saved (immersion killer), or it was too small and amounted to you having to stand in an EXACT coordinate on the map in order to be safe.

As for upgrades, I don't care much for them in SoC, because they're really not needed. It would only help to unbalance the game more.

The only decision I really don't agree with is artifacts, but not for the usual reasons. I actually agree that artifacts should act as more of a commodity than a bonus, but I'll really miss the choice you had to make when it did give you a bonus. Such as "Would I rather sell this and get 10,000RU to spend on some food and a new gun plus some ammo, or would I rather have more protection/ehancement against/with factor x?"

Which reminds me. Any word on whether or not hunger will be in the next build? I know your reasonings behind as to why it wasn't in 1.1, but it's one game feature that I really missed. It's fine if you still don't want to include it.

Welp, it's great to see it back. I definitely understand the reasonings as to why L.U.R.K. was on a sort of hiatus (not fully, but you get what I'm saying), as after trying my hand at modding games, they only tended to stagnate on me a bit as well. I think it's almost been about 7 months since I last played any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. That, and I've been busy with other matters, such as trying to find a job and administrating a TF2 server.

Though I do feel the old flames of love for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trying to reignite, I have to say it will be hard to get back into it with most other mods feeling the exact same. Something tells me that L.U.R.K. will change that small flame into a raging inferno again though, because it's always had such a different, yet very good, feeling behind it. It's not trying to be like AMK+ whatever **** you can throw into it (like so many others), it's trying to be its own mod. And that's what I've always loved about it.

Sorry about the long drawn out paragraphs. My mind tends to be like this in the morning.

- Fixed an issue where the AK74 was unable to equip scopes.
- Added basic night-vision goggles, purchasable at traders.

You sir, have done great justice here.

It's just too bad that I've already moved beyond the point where I don't need an AK-74 anymore. :(

Damn ModDB is saying the mirrors aren't available. I'll check again later on today.

Oh. And I like how the article you posted about Redux's release is posted on ModDB's Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky pages, but not the Call of Pripyat page.

You're still working on this, I see. I was starting to worry when I hadn't seen any updates concerning it in awhile.

Anyways, can't wait, and I wish you luck.

I didn't mean to come off so harshly and I apologize for that. I wasn't in that good of a mood.

But I still stand by what I say.

A mod like that may be good for a person who's just getting into STALKER, but for the veterans who've at least been around for more than a year, we're not going to bother. This may have been amazing in 2008, but in a modding world filled with nothing but AMK clones, or mods packs built off of a rip off of AMK, it gets rather stale. We want something original. Something that stands out and drastically changes the game so that no playthrough is exactly the same. So that if we're playing the vanilla story, we're at least having fun with it. We're sick of playing AMK clone after AMK clone.

I mean, the only original overhaul mods I've seen come out after AMK are Priboi Story, Rebalanced, and L.U.R.K. Everything else is just more of the same.

Seeing mods like this really make me think that after Lost Alpha, SoC is just going to lose its spark and stop being interesting. Because nothing original is being produced by the fans anymore.

Oh well. I guess we'll have STALKER 2 by that time.

And true that a mod from scratch may take longer to make, but at least the content will be different and genuinely enjoyable compared to say, AMK + Useless feature list #34. And you'd get more praise for your work if it was mostly original compared to if you just released a slightly tweaked version of a ripoff.

Oh. And are you going to be changing Atmosfear 2 to Atmosfear 2.1 now? 2.1 yields less RAM usage and I think some minor fixes. And Atmosfear: Fallout is included as an optional choice as well.

Well, I finally beat the game and I have to say I enjoyed it. I would've beat it sooner, but Atmosfear 2 was giving me game breaking problems here and there.

But enough about that. I can't wait until Redux comes out so I can play CoP in the best way possible. Or from what I'm looking at, I deem is the best way possible.

THIS JUST IN!!!

Another ****** mod pack is in production that uses OL as its base.

More details here:

Seriously. Why are almost all new mods just trying to be copies of a ripoff that add in more useless features?

1. As far as I know, nothing. Sleeping is used more or less to pass the time like in other overhaul mods. Exception being the noobfest that is OL.

2. I don't get what you're asking. Are you asking can you view a fight and then go fight? If so, I don't think so unless you finish the vanilla arena first. As the Arena Extension Mod is used in this and the mod itself states that you have to finish the vanilla missions first, I imagine that's the case with L.U.R.K.

3. Is this the issue with the Groza? If so, then yes. There is an issue with that and a workaround was planned, but since there are no plans for a team made update, I wouldn't count on a fix coming anytime soon. I may look into it myself if I have the time...

Ah. I see.

Well, if I had the time, I'd gladly take your place for now and start bettering my modding skills to learn how to fix those issues. I'm just busying play testing other mods like the new Rebalanced and such. That, and I'm also trying my hardest to get a job, not an easy feat these days, and I'm also looking into going to college or a trade school.

Perhaps if I can ever get a pretty good amount of free time, I'll hit you back up on that and I guess take that big of a responsibility. Until then, the best I can manage to do are small tweaks here and there. So if I ever get completely stumped on something, I'll be sure to ask you.

No more official patches or additions will be made by the L.U.R.K. team until Holden feels like getting back into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again.

I'm trying to cook up some fixes myself, but I barely have time with tweaking and testing other mods. And trying to start my life.

As Holden stated, the rest of the remaining issues can be easily fixed, so someone in the community who has decent modding skills could take care of it.

As for more weapons, you're going to have to wait until the team starts getting back into it again. I'm pretty sure some more animations would have to be made for whatever weapons you want in, so it could take a pretty good amount of time. I imagine more weapons won't be added in until the next big release.

Depends on which version you're getting.

If it's 1.0552, then all the stashes are replaced by leather jackets. This was done as a counter measure for the supposed revamping of stashes in 1.1 that never really made it.

If it's 1.1, all of the vanilla stashes are pretty much intact. I think there may be some changes here and there, but I'm not too sure on that.

It's interesting. I'm actually seeing more comments praise L.U.R.K. 1.0552 more than 1.1 on some forums. And honestly looking back, I can see why. Playing that version of L.U.R.K. just felt right for some reason.

It almost makes me want to get into modding 1.0552 now. Maybe combining the positive aspects of 1.1 with the overall feeling of 1.0552. And maybe throw in a couple more features.

Note the keyword there is ALMOST. But we'll see.

Indeed it does, but I recommend you get some patches to make the stability of the build at least a bit more tolerable. Without any patches, it constantly crashes.

Check the thread concerning it on the Mod Discussion board in the Shadow of Chernobyl section of the GSC Forums. You'll get a lot of info and patches/improvements there. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them there as well. Mostly everybody there is friendly and willing to help anyone with their problems. :)

I doubt new levels will be implemented. As for upgrades, that seems unknown. I doubt that though. I mean, we already have over 80+ weapons to mess around with.

Where did you get this info from to say 2.0 will have these things?

I imagine it won't be until he decides to start playing it again, and because of all that drama that occurred shortly after release, I imagine it'll be awhile before he starts again. Understandable. I can wait, and the mod is definitely playable.

Until then, I'm pretty sure there's nothing stopping the community from making fixes and posting them up.

I wasn't a mod dev either, but I learned to do something about it. It's not that hard once you start learning the basics. Hell, I could probably help you out if you wanted, though I'd recommend seeking better help from the GSC forums. Plenty of talented modders on there.

And honestly, I didn't know a thing about the magazine article thingy, or it being seriously praised over the net. I guess I was too busy playing other games while I was waiting rather than constantly finding out as much info as I can about a mod and constantly spreading word of how awesome it'll be over the web. So when the mod was released, I greeted it with a resounding "Meh." rather than how everyone else did with a resounding "OMG This needs to be changed, and this needs to be added in, and why did you cut this, etc."

Did I say anything about him getting payed? I think not.

And I'm not telling them to go away, I'm telling them to do something about it. Do something that makes them more pleased, like change the mod to their (and perhaps others) preferences, or play another game. You don't have to be bound to just L.U.R.K., there are plenty of other options out there. I actually recommend Rebalanced or AMK at the moment. Or if you want something completely new, play Priboi or wait for Lost Alpha to grace us with its godly presence.

If you're not happy, do something about it. Don't just sit and wait for someone to make you happy, as that'll get you nowhere. That's all.

Then you must not be playing STALKER. I've been sniper pistoled plenty of times in Vanilla. Even more so in AMK or Rebalanced. Hell, why aren't you people complaining about how easy it is for the enemy to get a headshot with just about any weapon in the game? I can't tell you how many times in Vanilla or another mod that I've been hit in the head by and AK-74 from about 300 meters away. And an AK-74, in most cases, isn't as accurate as some of the pistols you come across.

And WHY are we CAPITALIZING random WORDS??? It's NOT providing an EMPHASIS, it's making you seem like a BLUNDERING IDIOT who talks like WILLIAM SHATNER!!!

All I can say is that if you find the game too DIFFICULT, lower the DIFFICULTY settings. That's what it's there for.

As I mentioned, I play on Master, and I see no problems. Game plays just fine for me. Are the enemies a little too accurate? Yes. But that was the case with Vanilla and just about all the other mods out there. You learn to get used to it and you learn to use tactics, rather than just running into an enemy stronghold alerting them of their presence.

And honestly, REALISM is hard to define these days, as to what one sees as realistic, another might see as the complete opposite.

And to everyone who hates the enemies being too accurate, why not DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? Learn how to mod, like I am still learning, and fix these issues yourself. Begging and pleading to Holden isn't going to get you anywhere unless it's on legitimate claims and not something like complaining over and over again about something he said he isn't going to fix.

Seeing people overreact like this makes me feel ashamed to be a fan of L.U.R.K. sometimes. Because all I ever see when I come on here now is people whining and complaining about something. If your not pleased by L.U.R.K., go play another mod (or game), or make L.U.R.K. to you liking.

In life, you can't just sit back and wait till someone answers your every whim, you have to make yourself happy by your own means.

God, a little grumpy, are we?

What I'm saying is that there really is no way to escape it in general. Vanilla sometimes had this problem on Master and so do all other mods. Enemy weapons will be super accurate no matter what unless you dumb down the accuracy/difficulty settings. But then, if Holden did that for you, you'd be complaining that the game is too easy.

I play on Master myself, and I see no problems whatsoever. I'm able to survive because I use tactics, which sounds like something most of you lack at the moment.

There is no shame in lowering the difficulty setting if things are too hard. That's what it's there for.

This was the case and still is in the vanilla game and most every other mod. As far as I know, there is no way to fix this, unless you go lower difficulty to compensate for it.

So, I see Lost Alpha will require the 1.0004 patch.

This really kills it for me, as I already have so many other mods that require the 1.0005 patch, and I don't really want to revert the game back to 1.0004, because all of my other mods will lose compatibility with my game. And I definitely don't feel like installing SoC in 2 directories. I want to conserve what little hard drive space I have left.

So, how would a complete modding novice like myself go about creating a 1.0005 compatibility patch for LA after its release?

Or do you plan on making a compatibility patch for it like you did for Priboi?

And yes, I know 1.0004 is the superior patch. I just wish I realized that when I first got into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. :(

Have you read the section titled, "Things that you may think are bugs but aren't" on the front page?

If you think they're too accurate, lower the difficulty setting. He's not fixing it anytime soon, because it isn't a bug.

And pistols, in real life, can be insanely accurate if you know how to fire them right.
