Gekokujo

Mod review

I feel as if Gekokujo is easily one of the best mods to come from the Moddb modding community for Mount and Blade in years. The immense attention to detail, focus on historical accuracy, and focus on immersion make the mod amazing.

On a graphical and visual standpoint, the mod is gorgeous for Mount & Blade with high-quality textures and meshes with only ocassional clipping for certain overcoats with certain combinations of armor.

The clever referances to Japanese history and mythology are absolutely hilarious and witty such as Kojirou and Musashi.

The changes to battle scenes, landscapes, castle scenes, et cetera are amazing and are very true to their counterparts in reality truly wonderful.

The reworked animations to follow Japanese combative styles is appreciated and really adds strongly to the aspect of immersion the mod currently has.

The mod offers a fairly bug-free experience with only a few issues requiring immediate attention and others requiring eventual attention (Army morale constantly dropping despite there being no penalties in place against you such as using units from enemy clans, lack of food/food variety, over population, lack of leadership/charisma, et cetera) and a lesser bug that makes it so heraldic sashimono do not display their mons properly (Occassionally, not a consistent bug.)

The Soundtrack could use a bit of work, better tunes - I tend to just mute music and listen to Shogun 2's OST (Much like with Calradia: Imperial Age where I listen to Turkish music when I play as the Sultanate.) so this is not a complaint what-so-ever, but a mere recommendation.

My main complaint is that this team has yet to band together with other modders to produce a mod based on the Boushin War (Ehhhhhh... *nudge,nudge.*).

The Great War 1918

Mod review

As somebody that rarely sees anything World War I-related whilst still being a huge fan of World War I this mod fills a large, empty void that could not be filled with all of the World War II games currently floating around (However much I had enjoyed vanilla Company of Heroes pre-Third-party patch fuckup as well as a plethora of good World War II-centric games namely Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm.), and without there being another game or gamelike entity to fill this void until "The Somme" is released whenever it is released (Sadly, the massive "The Great War" mod for N:TW does not fill this void sufficiently enough. I have found this to be one of the smoother mods I have bothered with, and it was fairly free of bugs and incredibly well made and stable and nothing brought a bigger grin to my face than using the leichte-Feldhaubitze 16 to blow British emplacements to pieces, or using the Maschinengewehr Modell 1908/15 suppress Gordon's Highlanders as they screamed obscenities at one-another in a Canadian accent, eh?

The modeling and texturing is just amazing, as is the custom animations for things such as the Mark IV and A7V "Sturmpanzer". The idea to replace the Gordon's Highlanders skin's voice with a refreshing Canadian accent was wonderful and well-received.

After hours of play, I had only found one flaw; however this flaw almost seems too good to be true. Once the battle draws to an end, the A.I. will begin exclusively using whatever armor it has available, seeming to forget that it has infantry, mortars, anti-tank guns, et cetera. This mod is incredibly well-done, and almost deserves to be its own game.

To summarize, this is an astounding mod - one with few flaws, and immense amounts of enjoyment for the discerning World War I fan. With any luck, this mod will continue gaining popularity and will continue adding more and more wonderful features.

Star Wars Conquest

Mod review

This is easily one of the best Star Wars modules for Mount and Blade, but the issue with it is - it is the only one. Whilst the mod is definitely not terrible, it requires an immense amount of polish before it can be truly flawless. That being said, the mod itself is wonderful; the navigation map is immense, the armor selection is wonderful, the method of joining a faction is very well-done, the ability to purchase space craft is astounding (Aside from one error, the Z-95 "Headhunter" using the Republic's Acclamator's model), the race selection is incredibly well-done, as-is the use of native voices whenever attacking. (Minus the Droid, the constant "Roger, roger!" gets a bit... tiresome.)

But the game needs immense amounts of polish. The Scout Trooper armor is sub-par which is odd considering the great quality of the Stormtrooper set. Sith robes are either lazily-done, or are in odd colors. (Teal? Really?) Certain weapons look just horrible (Texturing, the meshes are great.) The Wookie's model could be somewhat improved. The HK-47 droid part set is just horrible. (Engine limitations, so it is not necessarily the team's fault.) The R2 model droid chassis is one solid color with no detail what-so-ever. The IG-88 droid set also looks awful. Certain Mandalorian sets look horrible in means of texturing.

If the mod would not be dead, seeing updates that focus on polishing would be astounding, but this will more-than-likely go unheeded. Despite all of this, I find myself still enjoying the mod - but longing for more polish and eyecandy.

the Far East War

Mod review

All-in-all, this mod is VERY well done. The animations are very nice, the new features such as Melee combat and Artillery-towing are welcomed additions. The Imperial Japanese Army is well-done in the mod, and are very enjoyable to use using most-any Doctrine. The Doctrines are also very well-done, giving new units to each Nation from each Doctrine, whether it be a M4 Sherman for the NRA or a Type 89 I-Go~otsu for the Japanese. The weapons are all well-done as well, especially the Kijiro Nambu Type 100, Taisho Type 11, and Kijiro Nambu Type 14. The Cavalry animation is also well-done; sadly I have yet to see any Melee combat as the only time the A.I. decides to use them - they are wiped out because I am addicted to my Artillery. The voices, whilst base/vanilla can easily be ignored by muting the game or drowning it out with fitting music. The models are very beautiful, and is a very acceptable use of 1C's models. *Perhaps you could also ask 1C for their IJA/IJN-SNLF voices, eh?* The balance is actually acceptable, especially considering the M4 Sherman cannot be spammed, and each unit; such as the Battalion Gun, Type 2597 Chi-Ha/Chi-Ha ShinHoTo, I-Go, Ha-Go,etcetera cannot be spammed.. Overall, this is incredibly well-done and easily deserves this ten-out-of-ten.

The Great War

Mod review

This mod is actually very well done, it does not deserve a ten due to the bugs and non-functional base installation without the Mod Manager workaround. Whenever this is fixed, of course it will be worth a ten. The models are VERY well done, the rifles are very nice, and the ability to use whichever tactic suits you is highly enjoyable. This also taps into an untapped market, namely World War I which is never really used - I have waited anxiously for this, and I was only disappointed in the few bugs, but other than that - this mod is just amazing. I appreciate the efforts that have went into this mod, and this mod was well-worth the wait. Once the issues are patched up, this will be easily worth a ten. Thank you for your efforts.

Fallout: New California

Mod review

Project Brazil has to be one of the most hopeful mods ever. If it were to be picked up by ZeniMax, and offered as a DLC - I would pay for it tenfold. This is honestly one the best mods I have ever played, with an amazing storyline and astounding voice acting, very professionally-done. The new Enclave "Patriot" uniforms are amazing, and despite my personal enmity against America, I wear one often. I guess I can coldly state "I wear this as a big ****-you." Even in its current state, this is incredibly enjoyable, I find myself wandering about aimlessly enjoying the grim outlook and darker atmosphere of the California Wasteland. It perfectly captured the meek outlook, and melancholy meant to be experienced by New Vegas flawlessly, even in the music from the NCRPR *I love the blues feeling given off by most of the songs chosen, and the voice actor fits perfectly with the idea of the station.*. I eagerly await the chance to watch giant wars take place across the wastes of California. Astounding work, and I wish you great success with Episode Two. I should give this a ten, but I will keep it here - at a highly-respectable nine, and bump it up to a ten whenever we get to see Episode Two, or whenever that bug I get with Robotodog is fixed (I had to reload an Autosave for wasting a Science-magazine while attempting to get to A.L.P.H.A, and I could no-longer interact with Robotodog, only his terminal.) Well, regardless. Thank you for an amazing mod experience, and I wish you all great luck and speed with the last two episodes.
