This is the chaingun I have so far; well, at least in it's late beta stage: Mega.co.nz
I tried to stay as true to the original sprite as possible and am going to improve the shading + details (not to mention fix the clown vomit on the end) What do you think so far?

No problem! It's my way of thanks :) I'm almost done modeling the chaingun after converting the entire color pallet, recoloring the whole model, and making several small adjustments to the original base to make it look closer to the actual sprite.

I don't know that much about coding, but do know how to animate smoothly (though, I may need to improve my artistic skill a bit). The assault rifle effect actually comes from another submod called Jay's BDv20 which, unfortunately, doesn't have dual wielding or the original black fingerless glove sprites I can rip right now, so I'll see what I can draw up in terms of muzzle flashes. As for the gloves, I can probably copy and paste them off of the original v20 sprite.

I'm so glad I can help making this mod even better! I'll definitely try my hardest to come up with something good!

Postimg.org Uhh, I think I found a bug.

One more thing, I've been feeling kind of guilty about requesting so many features from you, I decided to do something to help out for once. If you ever want some sort of optional voxel pack in the future, I'm working on some models right now.

I also managed to find some really cool looking assault rifle effects, too ( Youtube.com ) and I'd gladly try to import them for you. I'm not that good at modding right now (still learning), but I just really, really want to take some pressure off you with the amount of requests you're getting for one person. You truly amaze me that you can do this with just your spare time with so little experience in the field.

Can't wait to see v5!

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention in my previous comment is dual-wielding pistols. Almost to the final part in the Shores of Hell, and this is probably my favorite submod ever :D

Oh, okay! Man, it sucked to hear about Quaker's departure ): But, I'm very thankful that you're continuing his work, that's an awesome thing to do, man. This submod looks really promising so far, and the only new sound effects I honestly don't like are the chaingun and shotgun/super shotgun fire sounds. The chaingun is a bit too low pitched and muddy, and the shotgun has this really weird sounding metallic undertone to it. Personally, I liked v4's better (don't know about v5's since I never got the chance to play it).

Anyway, here's some ideas I have for future versions for now:
- Dual wielding SMGs (was originally going to recommend shotguns too, but upon deeper thought I realized that would make the super shotgun pointless and would be way too OP)
- Slide kick + other new melee abilities
- F.E.A.R-style slow motion (I don't expect to see this in any future versions at all, but it would be kind of cool)

Again, thank you so freaking much for not leaving Quaker's submod to die, and I can't wait to see more stuff in the future :D - Nanomen

The reason I didn't like this mod's machine gun before was because it was too damn small and weak looking; this new one, however, somehow out-did the original v20's by being literally one of the most badass, sleek-looking, and meaty assault rifles I've ever seen >:D

Oh my God, you are the BEST, I've been waiting so freaking long for a sub mod that lets you do that! Also, I have two more questions about this submod:
1) Will there be dynamic view/weapon bobbing?
2) Will this be compatible w/ the Brutal Weapons soundpack? Or will you just be using it all together with this mod? Since I love that pack and I would love to see it in this submod, too.
I'm definitely waiting to see what this mod has to offer, and considering how much I enjoyed your previous version (minus the occasional black screen), I'm really looking forward to it so far :D

Yup, cooler than cool now. This submod is so ******* rad, I love it :D Oh, and in future versions, it would be cool if you could change the look of specific weapons while in Project Brutality mode; so, if you're not happy with the newer look of a particular weapon, you can simply change it. Just thought it'd be a cool idea to throw out there :)

Wait, what in the third-dimensional ****? No, I'm not getting a screen like that, actually. And, to make matters even weirder, I'm using the Project Brutality compatible version of the Ultimate Doom Visor HUD; and, when I stopped using it, it's there! Then this submod suddenly became WAY better. So, it wasn't your fault, it was my HUD's fault. So sorry about that, I had absolutely no idea that an HUD could screw with the options menu [:|

Well, those are just my honest "first-impressions" on what I thought needed to be improved; I should of made that a hell of allot more clear when I posted my comment about six hours in. It was a bit stupid/overly-cruel of me to criticize it so harshly on the first freaking day, so I apologize for my extremely over-zealous behavior. Also, one more thing, were are all these new options at? I looked all over the options menu, and I could only find the "Project Brutality" options, only containing a couple new things. I honestly don't know were the "Classic v20" mode is; is it the "Brutal Doom Classic" preset in the "Spawn Presets" settings that trims down the weapon variety a little bit? I would like to disable at least some of the guns--not all of the new ones, just some--until further organization is implemented, I'm not a total purist like that. Again, I actually really like this submod, and once more please forgive my hasty actions ): - Nanomen

Eh.. I'm not really sure how much I enjoyed this addon :/ I mean, I really like the new kick animation + the return of the slide kick, the new melee system with the chainsaw swing being my favorite, the slight improvement in enemy AI being them now throwing grenades, and the re-done dual-wielding system is fantastic. I like those features, however, I think you were trying to be too big with this.

For starters, in my honest opinion, there's just WAY too many weapons. What the hell do I need the regular, pump-action shotgun for if I have one that's semi-automatic and can be dual wielded? It just makes inventory navigation a complete nightmare, and really gets annoying after awhile. I think you should have some kind of weapon swap system were you can take the switch the current type of gun you're holding for another one; or you could just have like a Half-Life system were you simply select the weapon you want to use without pulling it out, organized in different "type" categories.

Speaking of inventories, what the hell is up with the weapon order? I know it's a minor gripe, but the first time I played this, I was so confused as to why it was pistol, chaingun, shotgun, and rifle. Why not the default? It worked allot smoother.

Another problem I have with this addon is the Imps. I loved how they could crawl around on the ceiling, it was pretty freaking cool at first; however, the downside to this feature became more apparent as I went on. DOOM's engine itself having only eight different angles makes them pretty much impossible to see them when they're right above you due to them being 2D sprites, which is even worse in dark areas and quickly becomes frustrating after a while, especially considering DOOM's maze-like level design.

Finally, I don't know if it's just me, but I'm seeing allot less death animations than the original Brutal Doom. In v20, you RARELY see the default death animation, it's always varied and always violent; but here, at least with my experience, it's the total opposite.

I usually see maybe two or three different animations when I'm using the assault rifle, shotgun, pistol, etcetera, and only a couple of them dismember limbs/other satisfying things of the sort. I also noticed that the upper half of their torsos can only be torn up almost exclusively with chaingun. Why? Removing that animation from the other weapons makes everything seem so much less powerful and--admittedly--fun.

Overall, I personally feel like this submod is kind of a mess. I'm not saying I hate this mod--far from it--I just think that it needs some fixing up. It has potential, I really see were you're trying to go with this, and if you were to fix some of my nit-picks and some how merge this with the Brutal Weapons soundpack, than this could easily be one of the greatest submods ever--in my eyes, at least. Just giving some constructive criticism. - Nanomen

Oh, I see, I kind of realized that when I saw how DOOM pretty much uses one--and only one--font for the HUD and Menus. Tragic, really, since it makes the options menu a complete pain in the *** to navigate due to it being so hard to read in contrast with the background ): Though, an idea I have to possibly fix this is maybe releasing another, more thick looking light blue/green/anything but bright yellow font so it won't contrast with the menu background without ruining the original sci-fi look in the actual HUD itself. What I honestly think would look AWESOME is releasing the DOOM font (not the default one you see in game, the one were it's just one solid color) in different colors instead of just having the late 20th century alarm clock look. Thought'd be a nice idea to throw out there :/

Hey, does anyone know any really good Brutal DOOM/DOOM II map packs out there? To be honest, as much as I love vanilla DOOM's brilliant level design, they look a bit too colorful and empty.

For DOOM I, I'm looking for a pack were the early levels start off looking like an abandoned, scientific research station with chairs, desks, and other miscellaneous objects scattered throughout the level in office complexes with flickering lights, blood spattered on the wall, and various dead bodies of the scientists who used to work there to put an emphasis on how big the disaster you're facing actually is. I'm also looking for a sort of blend between narrow, claustrophobic corridors and increasingly open areas sprinkled throughout, becoming more and more common in the later stages as you journey deeper into Hell. Speaking of Hell, I sort of want a DOOM 64 look to it were it uses allot of grey, Gothic architecture with flames, pikes, upside down crosses, and other satanic runes to make it really feel like you're really venturing into the bowls of Hell itself.

As for DOOM II's, I basically want to see the same things I described in DOOM I's level design, except instead of the abandoned research station on Mars, you're traveling through demon-ridden, American suburban neighborhoods, factories, storage houses, and so on; it's pretty much the look the original DOOM II tried to do, but you could hardly even tell what environment you were in without looking really, really closely at it due to the graphical limitations of the time and weren't really all that detailed.

All in in, what I'm looking for is just really, really, well designed levels with allot of love and care put in the environments to make them look as detailed as possible. I don't expect/want anything to be exactly what I described, just link me to something that sounds relatively close to you. That's all. - Nanomen

(P.S - Thanks for inviting me, Unbeholden, I looked around and this looks like a pretty nice group you have here so far.)

Okay, one final request I would like to ask you to implement, since I know they've been getting kind of annoying at this point, is having humanoid NPCs flinch whenever they get shot/die. That's one of the biggest things I think Half-Life 2's combat needs, it would make shooting enemies way more satisfying, and would be a much better indicator of death, especially if there's going to be slow motion involved (if you ever decide to add that). Not even kidding, I've been so stoaked for this mod, I've been saving up all summer to get a new computer JUST so I can play this. It looks amazing so far, and is probably--in my opinion--going to be WAY better than the Cinematic Mod. You rock, man. :D

Could someone--ANYONE--please upload the Combine reskins by themselves (Civil Protection, Soldiers, Prison Guards, Super Soldiers, Zombine, and Barney's model without the ugly new face texture)? They look badass as hell, are pretty much the only redesigns in this entire mod I actually like, and I would really love to use them in other mods like Half-Life 2 MMod or just the default HL2 campaign. I've been trying for hours now to somehow make them work by using the "custom" folder, but I've been getting nowhere with it.

I'm talking about how you originally used the sway to aim. It's kind of hard to describe, but it just feels--more stiff than it did before. Like, it doesn't feel as fluid as it did in the 1.5 release, and I thought it was a pretty unique system that I haven't really seen in any other game before this one.

Dear Mr. MXTHE, I would like to thank you for developing this mod. It's some of the most fun I think I ever had with a Source mod; I'm a huge fan of F.E.A.R and Half-Life 2, and I think you improved the combat MASTERFULLY. I adore how the enemies communicate between each other via radio, how their guns go absolutely ballistic whenever they die, and the section with the slow motion and dual pistols made me squeal with joy. Your use of particle effects made me very happy, and I love the emphasis on survival horror mixed with over-the-top action. It's like what F.E.A.R tried to do, except done right this time. I actually felt scared and helpless during the prison chapter, a feeling that really only few mods--or even GAMES--can pull off for me. And the gun sound effects and gore--oh my God; this mod doesn't even feel like Half-Life 2, it really does feel like a stand-alone game to me, which I applaud you to no end for. Though, I have a couple of gripes with the chapter one update. For starters, what happened to the motion blur in 1.5? I actually really liked it, and for some reason the bloom effect just doesn't work for me in the newest update, which I would really like to have back because It makes the game look WAY better. Secondly, I adored the old aiming system with the laser dots being your cursor, and I would really like that system back, too. Other wise, this is one of the best mods of all time, and I can't wait for the next chapter. (Also, is there going to be a slow-motion mechanic in chapter 2? I thought your slow-mo was almost on-par with F.E.A.R's slow-mo, and that's something I've rarely seen well done in a Source mod before)
