Upon graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, I moved to Japan for three years, where I taught English and music. In my final year in Japan, I started working on music for movie trailers many of which can be viewed on my website. I am currently the audio director for an indie science-fiction game called "X32I : Redemption". I'm enjoying the collaborative process of making a game. I like to think of myself as a composer, but actually, I'm really a game-maker, or if it were film, a film-maker. My job is just one cog of a much larger machine. I am currently based in Los Angeles, California, where I am studying on the University of Southern California's Scoring For Motion Pictures And Television program. I am equally adept at orchestral or electronic writing. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

You make a VERY good point about bad orchestral sounds being used in mainstream games. It drives me crazy!

My criticism was a minor one as you are right, most people won't notice it! Incidentally, the EW patches aren't horrible, they're just not as good as other alternatives. You'll be absolutely fine with what you've got. You just got a critique from someone who is obsessed with production values!! Haha.

Very best of luck, tracking with interest!

If you have the money, get Symphobia (it has the exact kind of sound you are looking for).

If you don't, then get Orchestral Brass Classic

No other libraries really come close for that big sound. Their demos should tell their own story, but if you want me to hear demos from a real user (i.e. me) contact me privately.

Best of luck!

Very well produced soundtrack.

The opening track (some Mirror's Edge influence here), and the one that starts at 2:51 are particularly good.

Drums are a little bit early 90's for me, but that's just a taste thing rather than a criticism! The only other thing is that the brass sounds a bit cheap (compared with the production values of the rest of the music), but that's an Eastwest thing, as their library is now really really dated.

All in all, a great preview, look forward to seeing how the game turns out.

Those who like this should check out the Welsh group 'Hybrid' and their work with renowned film composer Harry Gregson-Williams.

GREAT track, but why is there so much compression on it?! (not MP3 compression, dynamic compression and limiting.)

fourteentoone Dec 3 2010, 7:43pm says:

The idea is good - a nice composition, but the mix is REALLY imbalanced, poorly blended and sounds distorted in places. Doesn't sound finished to me unfortunately. With a bit more polish though, this is undoubtedly a great track.

Composition = great.
Production value = not so great. Compare the track with other similar music produced by the very best in the industry and then you should be able to 'hear' what you need to do to make your track more polished.

It's a hybrid. Mix of live instruments (small string group, couple of wind instruments, couple of brass). Works MUCH better in context with the original video. Youtube.com

Hi everyone, thanks for all the great feedback.

I don't want to talk about the score so much because there's a long way to go before post-production.

Development of the music (and how interactive we decide to make it) is at a very early stage, and I'll be working closely with the sound team to make sure that everything blends together.

The score won't be John Williams-esque. That kind of score doesn't say 'Primal Carnage'. It will be more like Akira Ifukube's work and Michael Giacchino.

There will be a lot of real musicians on the score, depending on how many favours I can call in.

That's all for now from me!
