While these are ultimately better-made, honestly I prefer the beta's original icons. Partially due to nostalgia, but also because their similarity to the original HL2 icons makes it feel strongly grounded in the HL2 universe, at first a feeling that you know these weapons, but at the same time have never seen them. Could there by any chance be an option in Dark Interval to keep the original icons?

Are you talking about colors only or the shape also? Because they are not B\W in game, by no means!!
This is how any hud texture looks like, in HL1, Leak or HL2. The texture is basically an alpha channel that gets colored in-game with set color. So they are yellow in-game, like that

So don't be confuse by their true color.

(oh and don't pay attention to the © mark or the ammo counter placement, this is temporary)

As you can see, the textures are all b&w. The ones with white background are font images used in retail HL2.

I also share his opinion. I absolutely prefer the old fashioned caption icons. They just fit better and give off that Beta, old game feel. These ones, while being awesomly made, are just too... modern.

Well I guess that's the matter of taste. I'll make this toggleable, it shouldn't take more than a fairly simple edit of the weapon script system.

Though I'll still have to make new icons (in another perspective). E.g. Magnum or Crossbow don't have beta icons and retail ones would stand out a bit. Or the TLHA (tau cannon) and the physgun, they need updated icons.

It's great to see that you listen to the community, many modders just go "This is how it's gonna be, deal with it". I'm especially happy to hear that we'll see new icons in the original perspective too, the retail icons would indeed look rather awkward.

Hate it myself.
All right, I got it working, though the HUD change requires game restart. I hope it's not a big deal. Have to make a player notification though (like the one for audio language, 'This setting will be changed after a restart' or something).

Since we're talking about user preferences here, what would you like more: detailed weapon names (like «LAR Grizzly Big Boar Rifle (.50 BMG)», including also made up names for some weapons), or the short, HL2-ones (like «Pistol» or «Sniper Rifle»)?

I mean I'd myself like the former more, but I'll make the option for it if you deem this necessary.

Description

Some retail as well as mod weapons are apparently missing, such as frag grenades or molotovs, they will either be added on the icons table or will use beta icons. Also take a note that not all of presented weapons are currently exist in-game, these being hopwire grenades, AK, slam, stunstick and alyxgun in form of smg/rifle.

Some future weapons are not yet included either as they currently don't have a finished concept.

Icons of immolator, guard cannon, hopwire, stunstick and slam are taken from MI world- and vewmodels, AK-47 icon is made with the Insolence's weapon worldmodel. Hope no one minds.
