Hello there, have you heard about fate (game 1996), this was a demo that used duke nukem engine, i was able to open the maps with mapster32 and textures loaded correctly, it's there any chances to make this playable on eduke32? In the game folder there are tiles.art files and some .dat and even a file called "sounds" without extension

I really, REALLY love Duke Nukem. Though I'm still not really sure why people didn't like Duke Nukem Forever. Yes, it had a stupid weapon limit and some levels were extremely linear, but anyway, who cares about linear maps? Not all games have to be open world, and I don't really mind with linear level design as I like details. What I simply liked about it was that I saw Duke Nukem back on the screen, after so many years!

I know this is an old conversation but it's still of interest to those of us who miss the Duke of Nuke.

DNF faltered in many ways already pointed out here, in addition to these issues the combat wasn't all that great and the comedy was pretty stale: extremely dated, not very funny, or kinda wasted.

The start with Duke ******* and playing with **** annoyed some people (off to a good start). I feel like the devs should have gone much further in this direction. For one thing I'm not threatened by nudity cause I'm an adult that wants to play an silly over the top adult themed action game, so show Duke's **** and full on naked women, embrace the Duke attitude: Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll/Metal. DNF should be as close to an NC-17 game as it can be. Duke is a character that had a crossover with Penthouse, don't shy away from that aspect. Thus Duke should be pushing more of societies bounds and nerves like Postal 2 did.

Let the player decide if they wanna play in some pansy censored mode, don't force it. Heck a censored mode should just be a joke, like a mode where they censor bar everything and replace all VO with something ridiculous.

Unfortunately, we all know the current politically correct mindset in media of non-offensive generic entertainment. It will be interesting to see how far Postal 4 goes in this regard, or if RWS also censor themselves to appease the easily offended. I think RWS know their audience better and are making the P4 for them, whereas 3D Realms and Gearbox were trying to make a blockbuster game that could be sold on the current consoles and wouldn't get too many complaints about the content from anyone like say; Microsoft or Sony. If so, that's the wrong way to go about respecting the character of Duke and leads to severe compromise across the board.

Comedy-wise Bulletstorm had a much better sense of humor and self. There again, the re-release of that was called Full Clip Edition when Full ****, Full Prick, or even Full **** Edition would have made more sense ... but its all about raking in extra money so the content gets watered down and bastardized in any way possible.

I think in spirals so this is just kind of a cycling torrent of my thoughts ... lets return to DNF. The toilet bowl **** and the drawing board should played a greater role in the overall game. You should have been able to draw on anything; enemies, weapons, the ground, would have been great in co-op which also should have been a thing like in DN3D. Perhaps the **** could be used to make stains or to humiliate an enemy and could be procured from an enemy pig or a nearby restroom.

He's Duke so I wouldn't mind the option to abuse drugs as him; drinking, smoking, snorting. There was some drinking and in the World Tour he goes to a smoke shop and calls it "coffee" ... ffs, don't censor the Duke. Its a mature setting, we need more games that can tell silly and adult stories where characters are allowed to be themselves like the GTA series (and its very Tarantino theme/style/presentation). Duke is not a morality play or some PSA, he should be offensive sometimes, he should also be more vulgar ... but again, give the player some control over this (perhaps like Brutal DOOM with its insult button or GTA San Andreas where you could respond to someone's VO in a positive or negative manner). So Duke needs to be more unrestricted like GTA & Postal.

Regarding replay-ability, the aforementioned co-op mode would have helped. The patch for more weapons was better but still pretty lame by Duke 3D's standards (GTA V moved back to more weapons in the inventory after GTA IV). More alternate routes is a big one (yep, less linear) and levels should be so detailed you always find something new upon return.

Rather than trying to compete with other devs and swapping multiple engines, 3DR could have given us ten high quality DN3D sequels by now if they'd focused more on the art/theme/pacing/writing/characters. Bombshell would have been great for a co-op partner like in some of the old DNF videos, or some kinda AI assist.

The interactions in DNF with Duke's fans and such were okay, I'd prefer to see more civilians in peril situations; running, screaming, hiding, and you can save some if you act quickly enough.

The goochy goochy goo joke can stay and the Aliens references are fine but there needs to be so much more in the Half-Life sense where the story is told via gameplay and exploration. Overall the environments were not that interesting to explore, I suppose the car sequence in the casino was okay.

In a modern Duke I'd like older Duke to travel back in time and recruit a younger Duke from the mid-90's, he tells his younger self how his image has been tainted by the wages of sin (mostly greed). They travel to the future and put a boot or two up Randy Pitchford's ***, then the old DNF tech demos fall out.

The closest we might ever get to a proper DN3D sequel (besides Ion Maiden/Fury which was somewhat disappointing and was completely devoid of Duke & Shelly's sexuality) is in the fans hands. Just look at Half-Life and its many fan made expansions, some even took on a life of their own.

What I could not understand is that they could (as far as I know) have done the weapon wheel from Resistance: Fall of Man and if they had a hard time distinguishing weapon types they could have just cataloged them... the pc version was better but still @_@

I hated the weapon limit too. Wish I was in the office right in the moment they think'd that and say that I'll kill them if they add it ;)
