Expect the site to be unstable while we attempt to keep the site running, and I thank you all for your patience and support. This is affecting ModDB, IndieDB and Desura.
We shall work hard to continue showcasing the best mod and indie games of 2010, but may have to delay the announcement of a few of the winners.
Silly DDOS attacks. A common way of ******* off server owners.
Or regular folks trying to post news updates for their Mods. I had to delay my news post for a couple of days because of it.
Why would anyone want to DDOS moddb?
I'm going to guess that a fanboy for a mod didn't get a moddb award, so he got his botnet and tried to play hacker.
You might very well be right Lazy6pro. The timing would suggest such a thing. I hope ModDB can resolve this soon.
DDoSing ModDB is just plain stupid.
It's probably related to Desura
It's not only ModDB ;-)
The CnC Saga Network was attacked, too ...
My thoughts exacly, childish people.
three words:
Fight, Win, Prevail
Uh oh ... hate those guys doing this.
Anyone who attacking ModDB have no honor.
Burn with Napalm all who will do this again.
That's awful, I hope everything is fixed.
DDoS the day I post news makes me a sad candy... T.T
Than they didn't deserved it <.<
Moddb severs are so power full, they can be reachd even during a ddos attack. This, or he is attacking with just 500 bot-pcs's.
it is significantly more than that.
O_O
would a good bet be ~20, 25k machines?
Damn... hate DDOS =/
Those guys should eat sh*t, be skinned, multilated and be trowed for the lions.
Since I've had to deal with DDOS attacks myself, I feel your pain :(
Seems like someone's jealous of your success!
What does he/she hope to acomplish. its not like the servers'll stay shut down -_-, what a douche
attacking moddb that is very intelligent. attacking a mod community which is there for giving out free mods....... truely the world is pathetic.
People attacking websites like moddb have the same mentality as those who crack and pirate games that are only a few dollars (you pay more for a coffee!), then complain that games are too costly...
It's the same mentality as a street thug who bashes someone just for the sake of bashing them.
It's nothing more than a mere power trip and to gloat to his/her like minded friends.
It's damn good to see the servers holding up though, that's like kicking dirt in the attackers face :) Well done and I hope you guys don't get attacked again.
Actually, on a socio-psychological level, its more likely extreme petty irritation due to a lack of control in one's life, and a long history of personal failure and inability / general feeling of powerlessness and insufficiency.
uhm no they dont have the same mentality at all....
It's times like this that I wish I remained hacking, trace and hack the idiot(s) who did this. But very good work on keeping your servers up
I blame the humble indie bundle :p
Really mean to launch a DDOS attack a few days before christmas... maybe it's the MOTY-Grinch? ^^
I don't even see the point in such attacks.
I mean, why a humble gaming site?
Pathetic really. Nice to see you guys sorted it :)
Probably some 12 Year Old XBox 360 fan boi,but is is wunderbar to see Moddb STILL online with almost no hitch.Great job guys and keep up the good work,Moddb SHALL PREVAIL!
Well that...uhm..makes sense...
Oh no! A temporary minor inconvenience! How will we go on?
Your cyber-warfare is no match for my sarcasm defence, henceforth known as the SarCannon.
What's the point of attacking this site? Its harmless and fun to be here.
DDoSing ModDB? Lame. :|
I will never understand how someone can get their jollies from doing **** like this.
Maybe it's in response to Desura. Although there have been alot of these attacks reported in the news lately...most of them related to wikileaks. Maybe a new generation is just finding out how to do this, hmm?
Is it why I can't update my desura client? It keeps saying it cannot reach the host or I am not connected to the internet or something? =(
that is correct
Every wondered if people really can have 'no life'? Here's the proof. :D
Was trying to look at some mods as well when it seemed to have happened, wondered why it all slowed up. At least it still stands.
Are you sure it's a DDOS attack, and not just a lot of hits from where we released our mod. ^^
Rofl:p
What ********. Don't they know work is being done here?
I think whoever is behind this attack just reached santas naughty list...
Stupid clowns want causing people inconvenience!
Damn it, that fellow must be a loser only can do this
They can try to take our servers but they'll never take our freedom. -_-
Probably some butthurt Minecraft anti-fanboy that's mad at Moddb for giving Minecraft awards. You'd be surprised how angry people get at Notch over Minecraft stuff.
Notch got insanely lazy after he stopped being the only person working on it.
bluh bluh minecraft
I think it is as simple as:
"Someone mentioned Minecraft"
Their IP should be released for all to see. That is proper payback. ^_^
It'll be a botnet of people who are all unaware that they're even participating in the attack.
BAN them all i say!
hopefully mr 12 year old - xbox fan boi- just learned how to hack - lame - dickweed, will get bored and give up :P and we can let people part of the botnet back
Relevant: Imgs.xkcd.com
Hah! I'm sure someday something like that will happen.
