Post tutorial Report RSS The Joy Of Having The Quake Soundtrack In WinQuake Or GLQuake

Are you a purist? And you have to play WinQuake or GLQuake without the soundtrack? Well buddy, this tutorial is for you!

Posted by on - Basic Music

Step 1 - Download the soundtrack or rip it yourself

Download these (if you bought Quake from Steam):

Or rip them (if you bought Quake from GOG) by using IsoBuster and oggdropXPd in these steps:

  1. Open your .gog files in IsoBuster.
  2. In the left panel, select Session 1.
  3. In the right panel, select all tracks except track 1, right click on them and click Extract objects so they can be converted to .wav.
  4. Open oggdropXPd.
  5. Drop your .wav files in the window so they can be converted to .ogg files.
  6. Delete the .wav files and remove the spaces in the filenames of the .ogg files.

Step 2 - Download a wrapper and make a new folder

Download this wrapper and put it inside your Quake folder. Still on the Quake folder, create a new folder named music.

Step 3 - Music inside of music

Extract the Original Quake Soundtrack inside of music (note to only extract the .ogg files inside the ZIP) or put your own ripped soundtrack there.

Extract or put your own ripped Mission Pack 1 Soundtrack inside of a subfolder named hipnotic and rename track02.ogg through track09.ogg to track12.ogg through track19.ogg.

Now extract or put your own ripped Mission Pack 2 Soundtrack inside of a subfolder named rogue and rename track02.ogg through track09.ogg to track20.ogg through track27.ogg.

Now put the Mission Packs Soundtrack inside of music and delete the subfolders.

Step 4 - Who doesn't love configuration?

Make music.cfg files inside of the hipnotic and rogue folders of your Quake folder respectively.

Add this to the music.cfg file inside of hipnotic:

  • cd remap 1 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19

Now add this to the music.cfg file inside of rogue:

  • cd remap 1 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27

Create or edit autoexec.cfg files inside of the hipnotic and rogue folders and add this (recommended to be the last line if you add or added other commands):

  • exec music.cfg

...and there you are! Finally the Quake soundtrack in WinQuake or GLQuake.
