Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel. Overgrowth also benefits from Wolfire's brand new Phoenix Engine which has been built from the ground up to allow the use of cutting edge graphics, animation, and physics. Add to these exciting features Overgrowth’s realistic artificial intelligence and streamlined control system and the result is an astoundingly immersive experience.

Indie of the Year 2010 Editors Choice - Best Upcoming Indie

Posted by Henley on Dec 19th, 2010

2010 was the year that has had the most new profiles created to date, and many mods moving over to develop Indie titles! To be nominated for an award in Best Upcoming mod projects need to have been updated significantly during 2010 and have not released (obviously) anything more then a demo. Here are the Editors of IndieDB's and our judges top selection of 2010.

is a heist game, like the movie Ocean’s 11. Play by yourself or with up to 4 people on the same screen or online!

is an acrobatic puzzle platformer. Use your trusty broom to clear an area by sweeping things up as stylishly and as thoroughly as you can! There is also a level editor planned, so you can create and share your own levels.

Your goal is create a safe haven in the wake of the Calamity, a cataclysmic event that shattered the world. The entire play experience is dynamically narrated, gradually revealing a rich backstory as a mysterious narrator recounts your journey in real time, giving deeper meaning to your every action.

Gomez is a 2D man on a voyage of discovery into the mysterious 3rd dimension. Change your perspective and look at the world in a different way.

takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel.

Honestly surprised not to see Natural Selection 2 up there but then again I suppose it'll win in another category. That and would be more of a personal opinion. With this list I'd also bet on Overgrowth but I'm personally in favor of Bastion with it's unique narrative, old school tried and true gameplay, and art direction. Good luck to all :D

I am impressed by the indie lineup

These blow the upcoming mods away by sheer style & gameplay (well overgrowth more for engine), especially Monaco.

I want these 5 in a bundle.

My inner fanboy is devastated at Overgrowth's loss. Anyways, Bastion looks cool and I'd be excited for Fez were it to be released on PC. Monaco looks... interesting. I'll have to watch it.

All of these games look very cool obviously, but I'm also most excited about Monaco. It just looks so awesome. I used to be excited about Fez, but the lack of information or release date from the developers became quite frustrating after a while.
