Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas is a non-commercial PC game being developed by PiratesAhoy!, and is to become the historical seafaring game to end them all! Fun, realistic gameplay on land and at sea, set during the Age of Sail, will provide extensive free play, exciting scripted storylines and intense multiplayer scenarios.
Our first image showing the sea, land, a ship and floating objects all at once.
Looks great :D
Beautiful!
Please note this model does not represent the quality of those we intend to include in the final game. This vessel is only for initial test purposes and will not be included. We have some far more accurate models in the works. :)
Even without the sails and rigging, I think it looks great.
Will the game use tessellation?
Initially, I don't think it will, because we're mainly aiming for DX9 compatibility (our programmers know more than I do). We might eventually include it for DX11 support as the game progresses, though.
Thanks for responding. I just thought that using tessellation for sea and the sails would make a nice effect.
Anyway, I'm just overjoyed to see this game being developed.
I'm glad you're happy about the development. We were toying with the idea for quite some time, and even though progress is slow right now, we're all really pleased that we've decided to make the game. Hopefully the end result will be something very enjoyable!
We should probably replace this image with a newer vessel. We certainly have the ships to do it with.
Indeed, but it depends what our programmers are up to at the moment. If we want an image from within the game engine itself, one of them will need to import a ship first.
This may be useful. It's far from done, but it's pretty impressive, if you ask me.

Ah, if you want images of ships without the water, that should be a bit easier. That particular one could do with textures before being showcased here. I'll see if I can figure out importing models with their textures later.
