Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas is an indie PC game being developed on the Unreal Engine, and is to become the historical seafaring game to end them all! Fun, realistic gameplay on land and at sea, set during the Age of Sail, will provide extensive free play, exciting scripted storylines and intense multiplayer scenarios.
A poster you might see while walking around in the game, coinciding with the events in a proposed Seven Years War storyline.
By PostCaptain.
Damn lol i don't know why i read that S as an F. Good poster tho :D
maybe, because the fHED isnt SHED and fave isnt save
The s/f things are actually the long s, which was used up until the early 1800's alongside the normal modern s.
Don't worry though; I doubt that we'll be including that detail in things that the player actually needs to read. A bit too confusing for people unused to seeing it.
I agree, though i wouldnt mind seeing it in the writing, or documents in game. But character to character conversations dont really need it. A very good touch though, really draws on the immersion :3
And to add to that, I've found the ASCII code for the real long s, which that font contains. I'll upload an updated version eventually, but for now, I'm going to Baja for awhile.
nice picture but where in the game will we see things like this i wonder.
it looks nice.
Possibly posted all over certain well-frequented areas of towns. This is something that the player could potentially get printed and posted to boost recruiting.
Bloody brilliant idea :O I look forwards to seeing its usage then :O
Great concept! If you are at all interested, as a historical Royal Navy reenactor in a group who regularly prints pamphlets like this we have some graphic design tools that can make this a lot more accurate. There is another font that is taken from 18th century texts and built in with a macro that presents correct usage of the long s and ligatures that we make use of.
I've found how to use the long s in this font now in all its various forms, and I have an updated version that hasn't been uploaded with the s's fixed.

Sorry about our lack of images lately. Progress is slow because we don't have many active programmers, but assets are still being made by our 3D artists. We will try to post WIP images and renders when possible.
I can assure you we're not giving up on this project. We've been modding PotC for ten years now, so we have no shortage of determination! :)

It should end up looking pretty similar, yes. We just need to experiment with the shaders until we get the results we're after.
In fact, the ships should look better than those shown so far, because the renders don't feature specular or normal maps yet.
