Pick up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people, people he cares about, are counting on him.
This add-on adds new sounds, and changes some existing sounds for Half-Life 2 and it's episodes. The goal: Make the soundscapes in Half-Life 2 sound more immersive and realistic, but keeping it subtle and true to the game's world.
This add-on for Half-Life 2 and it's episodes changes and adds sounds used by the games' soundscapes. It doesn't touch the maps, it only modifies the soundscape scripts. Some soundscapes might not sound very different, but this is because some soundscapes only had additional sounds added, where as others, like parts of the caves in Episode Two, are noticeably refreshed.
More soundscapes are likely to be tweaked based on feedback, so keep an eye out for future updates.
Place SoundscapesPlus.vpk in \steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom\
This folder is referenced for all HL2 games, so you only need to put it there for it to work in the episodes. If you want this add-on in Half-Life 2 Update, put the file in \steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Update\hl2\custom\
Some additional sounds used were created by Frawzy, who made some great sound enhancements to Left 4 Dead 2, and are available on the Workshop.
