Report article RSS Feed FPS/RPG E.Y.E reveals new trailer.

While E.Y.E has been there for a few times, there weren't much informations on it. This is now fixed with this brand new gameplay trailer. E.Y.E, wich began as a mod, has become an indie game as developpement time passed. The developpers decided to release this brand new trailer to stimulate the interest for the players and potential editors.

Posted by Yvain on Apr 2nd, 2009

A long time passed since E.Y.E revealed its gameplay trailer, in august 2008.
Listening to the comments and critics, they modified the game quite a bit to make it look better.

Here comes, the mod that became an indie game on the source engine, with an interesting trailer :

There hasn't been much official information, mainly due to the developers not having the time or the money to communicate, or even an editor for all it matters.

E.Y.E is a FPS/RPG that mainly focus on a solo/coop campaign. Its main sources of inspirations are Syndicate Wars, Deus Ex, Wh40K, Diablo2, Blade Runner, GITS. quite a list to say the least. While this trailer shows mostly the action side, this is not the only thing that the game offers, my guess is that more might be released on a later time. the developers are not total strangers, they were the developers behind Syndicate Black Ops mod on the first Half-life.

If you speak french or care to use an online translation tool the developers have answered quite a few questions on the Canard PC forums : Forum.canardpc.com

Stay tuned, the developers might not be good on communication but I'll try to keep their best public informed :)

I pretty much got that much from your original post. However "sounds" and "textures" taking out of the debate there seems to be zero resemblance from hl2's storyline, feel and overall visuals. Like Dremth said it was not easy to identify source in the beginning shots. Now if you still feel that this is a blatant ripoff of hl2 then feel free to contact valve explaining how the similarity with the source engine are concerning in many mods.

He didnt say it is a ripp of, he said that there is still a lot of hl2 stuff left, thus the Game shouldn't be sold if these were to stay. I agree to Yvain. Either they will remove these things left, or maybe they can even leave them, if theses are included in the Source Engine license, which you'll need to sell a source game anyway. I personally wouldn't have anything against reusing them, as the game is sort of Dirty-Sci-Fi themed.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure using a few textures and sounds from HL2 is forbidden by whatever license Source uses. I've seen other 3rd party Source engine games that use some assets from HL2.

Anyway, this game looks great! I would like to hear and see more about it.

Epic don't allow you to use any UT3 or GOW assets at all in retail games, Valve however, might be different I guess.

For your information, the Valve Source Engine comes officially packaged with a horde of pre - made textures and materials in it's database, some of these have appeared in the Half - Life 2 series...

P.S. I notice no resemblance to HL2's visuals in the trailer...

I'm not saying it's bad, in fact this was one of my favrite mods. I'm just saying VALVe could sue the for useing this stuff, and they also used a few of the hl2 animations... :/

EDIT: And I'm not talking 'bout the visuals...

All half-life 2 textures, models and sounds can be used in mods/indie games. They're found in the base content .gcfs, and come free with any Source game.

Those complaining about HL2 stuff, you've gotta REALLY look for that in the trailer to notice it. What stood out to me was the great level design, characters, weapons and their different configurations, etc. Yet nobody bothers to point that out, only the %0.01 of the default HL2 stuff.

You dont have to buy a license for source? Im pretty sure that they just take a cut of your sales in exchange for using their engine and distribution platform. Good Deal.

This game looks pretty awesome, the trailer was really well done also. Anyone know the pricing info for it yet? Im definetly will have to buy a copy off steam when it comes out, game looks amazing.

For all intents and purposes, I think this was a "Work in Progress".
Yes, there were HL2 sounds and textures there. The devs have done a great job this far, and I suppose they will replace all the HL2 assets they can before releasing.
The trailer was released to attract attention of eventual editors. Maybe the team needs more help? The game isn't finished?
Until we see the final version, we cannot really judge them. It might change a lot.

If they bought a license, all is fine and dandy if they want to go retail.

The ending license/copyright statement looks ripped from HL2. It's outdated too.

The voice sounds a little out of place. Maybe that's because I don't know the full story, but shouldn't his voice sound muffled or something like its behind a helmet (seeing as the character is wearing one)?
