"Dungeons of Desolation" is a dungeon crawler to be released on Xbox Live Indie Games and PC (after the XBLIG release).  It has a roguelike feel to the gameplay, but will have a complex skill system, tons of items and nice non-pixelated grpahics.

Story:

Many years ago in the middle of town of "Desolation" a mysterious stairway was discovered that leads down to a huge labyrinth. Since then adventures from across the Seven Kingdoms have come to seek fame and fortune by braving the dangerous dungeons beneath Desolation. None have ever reached the bottom and returned to tell of it. Some say that there is no bottom, that the dungeons goes on forever and you would eventually go mad if you could survive long enough to keep descending.

It is said that the no two adventures arrive at the same place when the travel down the stairs in Desolation, making it impossible to make a map of the dungeons. The few that have made it out alive of the depths have returned with untold riches and powerful artifacts. You an inexperienced adventurer have come to Desolation with a little coin and big dreams. How will you fare in the "Dungeons of Desolation"?

All of the game screens have been updated graphically so they look at least half decent. Meaning at least there is a background and the controls are displayed. I have also started to adding different fonts so the text looks better. Previously there was only one font and it looked terrible when it was scaled up significantly.

I have also updated the town level so the player can enter the buildings. I still need to implement the player town storage system, but that wouldn't be difficult. The town look has been updated a bit too. The paths now connect the buildings and there are symbols on the buildings to show what type of shop is inside.

Another addition is the Dungeon Codex. This is available from the pause menu. The Dungeon Codex will allow you to see what monsters, items and enchants you have discovered so far. I am trying to decide if this should be common across all characters or just for the specific character you are playing. Meaning if you discovered a monster in on one character would show up in the Codex of a new character? Some rogue like record monsters across characters, but not items. Post a comment if you have an opinion.

Too spice up the combat a bit I have added quicktime events for critical strikes.  When the player gets a critical strike a message will roll down on the screen and gauge will appear.  The closer to the top the player hits the button the higher the critical strike damage.

This is looking fantastic, I'm a huge fan of rogue-likes, I can' wait for this one. Any word on the release date for this or a beta testing date? Also, will this be free? I'm more than happy to support you and I think making it buy to play is a good idea.

Right now I am working really hard to get it completed for the Microsoft Dream.Build.Play Challenge (dealine is June 12th) so I have been focusing on the Xbox version. I am hoping to release for Xbox in June and the PC in July or August. The Xbox cost is going to be 80MSP (around $1) and PC price should be around fairly close to that.
