You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO Half-Life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.
I still have trouble believing this is Half-Life 1. You could sell this as a standalone game and I wouldn't know the better.
Well, source is based on goldsrc and that is based on quake engine. So you can say that this is a brother of source. And portal 1 is made on quake engine!
In that case all the COD games from COD 2 onwards are made on the Quake III engine.
...still not as impressive as this.

i think cod is impressive..... it looks the same since cod 2 :O

That's a load of bull ****. Only an ignorant person would fail to recognise any difference between CoD 2 and CoD 4
Over 70% of the Quake engine was modified to create GoldSrc. Source replaced almost all of GoldSrc, so I doubt very many remnants of the Quake Engine would remain in Source if at all.
false, all valve games after 2003 was made in the source engine.
Well, I can still see that it is a goldsrc based mod, regardless how many graphical improvements and high-res textures there are. That's why I really don't understand comments like "this looks better than source" or "I thought this was a mod for HL2", because in my opinion you can see directly that Source has (of course) better visuals.
But it looks awesome for a HL1 mod, that's for sure!
Unless, I dunno, they manage to make a game that originally looked like Dark Forces 2 look like F.E.A.R.?! Dude, for HL1, this is impressive. I've seen lower-graphics Half-Life 2 mods.

looks kinda awesome as battlefield 3! the graphics are WAY better than source
You must have a bad pc, then.
Very few people have used the Source engine at its best. You should know that before stating ANYTHING is better than Source.
Btw, for a HL1 mod, CoF's graphics are epic!
Push the "GoldSource Engine" and you will get like "alpha of Source Engine"
Oh, wow!
Awesome, it looks very realistic and detailed.
Looks like poop.
Wait, today isn't backwards day? Ah hell.
Fantastic texturing and lighting. I can tell that job at Dice, was it? Is really helping you iron out lighting and texturing and its really bringing out the "wow" in Cry of Fear. Can't believe it's HL1, and I can't wait to play.
Looks amazing :OOOOOOOOOOO
love it! great what you guys did with the engine :)
btw. will cry of fear feature widescreen format (16:10,16:9)? because most or all of the screens are not?
Utterly amazing. And Keep_it_up, HL1 supports Widescreen with no anomalies, so I can't see a reason for this to not.
And bravo. There are only two other HL1 mods that have gone this far graphically. Truly the elite 3 of HL1.
Absolutely gorgerous.
My god cant wait.
Absolute awesome...
Looks bumpy.
someone else was thinking in BF3? xD
For about 2 seconds, based on the thumbnail. It's just that impressive.
Beside "beautiful and "awesome" I have nothing else to says.
Once again the ancient fact gets proven:
It's not the engine, but the artist who's using it that decides how the game will look!
Absolutely stunning work! You're making me drool just by thinking about how some older Goldsource mods would look with all these features. :)
Well said Teemuslayer. All lies in the developers vision and skills.

He might be talking about some other things, like those black bars that you can find in cutscenes like in AOM that never reached the other side of the screen if you had a high enough res.
Like this.
Cloud.steampowered.com
Yeah. CoF supports widescreen though. I'm using widescreen monitors myself. The reason why the screenshots are in 4:3 is because they look a lot better on ModDB. Widescreen screenshots gets so small.
How many normals can you use in a single map?
How many you want. Like every single texture.
Oh nice!
omfg this can't be HL1 engine o_O
Nice,looks very realistic :)
Really?
I've been playing through Half-Life again and now I see this screenshot that's using same engine as it. ******* amazing.
SHINY
wow dude you will have impressed valve if they ever look at this
DID I JUST HEAR THE WORD SELL???
haters will hate :|
uhhhh, shiny!
3 words: SO FREAKEN AWESOME!
neat textures
WoW White Lamps are White :D
Hey i was wondering how do you make a server? is it like you join a server or you can make a private server?Cuz i was hoping for making a private server since all the servers are in america
For a second, I wondered why you seemed to have posted a photo of real subway station escalators...
Most impressive visual is the reflection of the light on the wall.
Looks so real!
Is UDK engine is for Unreal tournament right?
very very good looking! realistic..
Honestly since most comments are fights between which engine is better or whatever i'll quickly tell you that every engine itself is amazing and great. You saw how IGN mocked source when they reviewed portal 2,they thought that source was too old and yet source prooved them wrong.Even though rage is kind of bugy itself it also demonstrates the power of bethesda's engine too.Nice visuals BTW.
Oh my Jesus. This looks absolutely jaw-dropping. You guys are doing damn good work.
