hello since half-life was first relarsed there have been lots of questions about the GMAN now i have three likeable answers of who he is and whats he's purpose.

1. he is god that would maybe why he is called gman ( godman)

2.he is a governaunt man which is why he's named GMAN (through doesn't explain why he appers out of no where so quickly)

3.he is gordons relative or father.

so whats your theory

Erm please use a spellchecker or something.

but the gman is and will forever be a alien that is paid to "remove" the combine or something.

I keep it simple. Gman = Government Man.

I dunno how many times I've seen this conversation.

From the HL Saga Story Guide...

The official HL2E1 site calls GMan a "sinister inter dimensional bureaucrat." The way things are going, I believe that G-Man is an agent of an interstellar rebel alliance, larger organization, or entire race (assuming a human form), seeking to try to break down the ruthless Combine empire, an empire which seems to have existed far before the events of HL1. This rebel force has incredible technology to be able to control teleportation in a highly advanced way, and is arguably much more advanced than the Combine itself. GMan could even be a divine being, though I'm not a big fan of that idea. I don't think GMan and his rebel alliance really cares about humanity all that much, but rather, they see Earth as a viable battleground to fight the Combine on, or a strategic way to divert the Combine's attention. I feel that GMan's motives and goals are the very nexus of the entire Half Life Saga. I feel that GMan is the deepest secret of the entire Half-Life saga, and once he is fully uncovered, we will fully understand the core of the entire series.

I think its probably a pretty accurate guess.

A highly advanced scientist with knowledge/technology that neither humans or combine can comprehend.

lol theirs one thing i do know. the g-man is NOT related to the gordon freeman in any way, heres why: gordon freeman has brownish hair. the g-mans is black. the g-man has a smaller build to gordon freeman and a widows peak. gordon has a flat hair line. he might lool like gordon freeman but hes not. you can change. but not your genes. its pretty eaisy to see. theirs a video on you tube that showed me this and some i figured out for myself.. but i cant figure out how to post the you tube clip so ill just say what its called: Gman/Gordon Theory.

I have dark brown hair, my dad has light brown hair. I'm 6'4 and skinny, he's 5'10 with a bit of muscle. I've got a receding hairline (already) and his is pretty decent.
Does that mean he's not my real father?

The most common theory it seems is that he is Gordan from the future. I have the feeling that Valve is just making it up as they go. Lost style.

I may not be a scientist well versed in inter-dimensional travel and wormholes but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I don't think so. I remember hearing at some point--I believe it was on a PC gaming podcast-- that Valve essentially has a big book of the Half-Life story with all the details mapped out. Of course, I'm sure game play details evolve over time, because the popularity of things like the portal gun must influence Valve.

You just reminded me I want to use the portal gun in HL2L Ep 3.

That's doesn't stop them making it up as they go along. The book could have been very empty when they started ;)

I heard the reason the gman is called the gman is because Valve basically lacked a good name for him as an NPC.

Know how, in HL1, when you shoot at him, it sounds and reacts just like shooting some of the unbreakable glass? Valve decided to call him glass man, or g-man for short.

And then the name stuck since people started calling him the gman, g-man, g man, etc. because he's also a Government man.

And then it turns out G-man is Gordon freeMAN. So basically all this speculation is completely random. Yay. I must say I like the explanation in the HL2 Saga, though. It makes the most sense currently...and I really hope he's not Freeman's relative...Or at least not his father. That would just be...anticlimatic, really..

May 8 2008 Anchor

nah.. its in the credits... it said "voice of the g-man" and so thats when we began to call him that

plus... now that i read ALL of your post... no the g-man isnt related to gordon

not that i know of plus the g-man has diffrent genes to gordon

Just for the record, you do realise people have two different parents, right? So Freeman might have got more of his mum's genes, and GMan might have got more of his dads.

Or they could just be completely unrelated, but I wouldn't base any theories purely on what they look like ;)
