Quake mods Thread

With the release of all the newer games (Half-Life 2 comes to mind), older games are easily being overlooked.I'm making this topic to encourage people to consider Quake 1 mods.

Some of the most talented programmers choose Quake 1 because of its easy customization, and its wide range of options and possibilities.

Here are some good mods I know of:

Game Mods:
Conquest
Improved Quake
Defeat in Detail 2

Engine Mods:
QMB
Vengeance
Tenebrae

I'm waiting to for Conquest to exit beta before I try it.

Theres some other mods that I still play at my LANs, like Horror Quake, AirQuake, and Future VS Fantasy. Sorry for not adding links to them, I'm lazy.

QuakeBall was novel while it lasted - although if I recall correctly that was Quake II. Some of the stuff I've seen from Tenebrae was certainly quite impressive

If we're talking about Quake mods, I'll have to sneak a plug in for mine: Castlevania

Surprised nobody mentioned Darkplaces or CheapHack, then again DP isn't registered here.

People overlook the best, like Prydon Gate and Grass.

Very fun when played together!

But really, much of the talent of modders is poured into Quake 1 because of the wide range of options. Do you realize the kind of Realistic Tactical Shooter one could make with some QuakeC skill and a decent engine? *cough*Far-*cough*ce*cough*

Why do you need to plug your two mods twice in the same topic?

Because I had to have mine by themselves, and not amongst others like QMB

Was just checking the games list, and I found something interesting - Quake 3 is apparently the 5th (almost 4th) most modded game.

#1: Half-Life 2 = 623 mods
#2: Half-Life 1 = 563 mods
#3: Unreal Tournament 2003 = 142
#4: C&C Generals = 107
#5: Quake 1 = 105

In general Quake is almost certainly 2nd only to half-life, and even then, if you were to include only actually semi-finished (i.e. have a release of some sort) mods it would be quake for sure

Quake3's not on that list

The majority of hl and hl2 mods are dead though

And not every mod ever made is listed here at ModDB. Theres only 20 Doom mods listed here, and I know Quake has a lot more mods than whats listed here.

If you managed to count up every completed mod for every game that top 5 list would be very different.
