Depends on what you mean. Far Cry is nice and all, but it has started to die off pretty quickly. With Half-Life 2, it'll be pretty big for a while due to the modding community. But if you're going just for looks, it's obviously Far Cry. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

i don't know what far-cry uses but hl2 uses pre-rendered lighting with pseudo-shadows. rather quick and the static lighting looks good (sure, static lighting ALWAYS looks better than dynamic one, especially shadow wise) but dynamic shadows look shit like hell and you are restricted to one 'sun-light' direction. |

FarCry is visually impressive because of the bright, tropical setting. HL2 is much grittier and is capable of the same look as farcry. The modding community gives HL2 alot of support. |

far cry is easier, LH2 is much harder to use. I prefer far cry because its easy to make tropical enviorments which i enjoy! |

Farcry is capable of a 'grittier' look too, obviously cryengine was designed for the massive outdoor/tropical environments but it works both ways... play it in 'cold' render mode and you can see how it wouldn't be hard to recreate that cold vibe hl2 oozes. The community is no way near as big as hl2's, certainly, but it's there... check out www.crymod.com aside from the mod stuff... what looks better? Generally as a game and not taking modding into consideration... Farcry is more impressive to me overall, visually. -- Rarhg |

yea i agree, but far cry has no way near as good of character models as HL2 even though i dislike HL2 i gotta admit that |

Far Cry uses prerendered lighting for outdoors, but indoors it uses real time lighting and stencil shadows, and looks way better than HL2. -- Defeat in Detail 2 - Standalone RTS Game |

As much as I like the tropical setting in Far Cry, I would say Half-Life 2 is by far graphically superior. It runs better on most computers, it retains a great gritty urban look on machines both top of the line and nearly ancient (my brother runs it on a GeForce 2 and it still looks good), and there is a larger support community to go along with it. Add to that the fact that it probably has the best character models and best physics system I have seen in a game so far, and it all seems pretty darn good to me. Edited by: JoeX111 |

FC with cold mode and hdr on beats hl2 to death -- |

I don't know.. I prefer the game handling *feel* to Half-Life 2 over Far Cry -- Nothing. |

Yeah, same look sans the huge environments. But being realistic, FC's community is dying pretty fast. It started small, and the shit multiplayer doesn't help retain players. EDIT: not only is HL2 technologically inferior, I doubt it would be that sucessful without the pre stablished fanbase. cheapy don't get stuck again on the capslock please, it's annoying. and i would not say hl2 is simply better due to graphics or physics. graphics are prerendered with crappy dynamic shadows. physics are a mediocre implementation of havok and the sdk is hell. depends though in the end what you are after. |

take a look at far cry 2, its incredible. The leaves move when you hit them, the vegatation sways where u go and you can destroy buildings. The shadows are incredible, my jaw almost dropped down to the floor once i saw them! But Far Cry and Half Life 2 are completely different games, half life is more suited to urban, and city enviorments while Far Cry is for tropical and jungles. Some people want to push half life to foresty enviorments, and some want to have a city in far cry like me Edited by: cheeseyballz |
