Hmm no, I never approved an ad like that? Next time you see it can you screenshot it and post it here, or describe exactly how it works? We shouldn't be running advertisements like that.

I have no idea what they are saying :)

I however have had an 'ad' that pops up and asks if i want to participate in a survey. You need to click it to make it go away.

next time i get it i will make sure i take a screenshot

That survey is deliberate - have to run it once a year for a few weeks. You should only see that box once a year though, so I encourage you to participate if you can.

I never got that ever in that size.
Chances are you might have some crap nasty ad/spyware
but from dgmurdock that does not surprise me
Tribalfusion is the classmates provider, i've heard scary spyware infections stories from that adserver before

And I have it too? This looks a bit too well set up for a spyware. I mean it correctly links with Moddb and everything.
I have virus protection running 24/7, I never go to any odd sites, and have my router locked. I'm professionally certified in Internet Security (And 3 other computer security concepts) after-all!

If it is something like spyware...Grr. I'll re-sweep my system and network.

Edit: Found a neat tool thing. Yeah, I'm finding several odd cookies that I bet shouldn't belong. Anti-virus didn't pick it up, and firewalls and Mozilla locks didn't stop it. I'm more worried about how these got in...

Well for anyone else getting these ads, I got this tool called CA Yahoo! Anti-spy. I guess it comes with this yahoo toolbar.

I've got it, too. Would post a screenshot but I don't think you need it..?

I get it on all three browsers: IE, FF, and Opera, just from surfing around long enough. I'm pretty sure it's the site and not the users..? I hope it's not the users >>

Mine totaled out at 38 tracking cookies. Though many of them are software trackers (Usually loaded when you agree to use the software), I got rid of everything that didn't sound familiar. Many others are simply loaded up when logged onto a site. Yes, they track you, but they aren't necessarily bad.
You shouldn't be able to pick up the nastier ones by simple browsing. You have to do 'something' to get those. (By simple, I mean e-mail and Moddb, and thats it. :P)

I'd suggest at least a scan. Most because that tool happened to notice a trojan cookie. I've never really even heard of that. I was always taught trojans were used in exe's and bat files.

No reason not to scan your system eh?
Might save your computer's life. (Should we start a computer-security awareness thread? I'm sure theres a few users around here that could benefit from that :O)

Pretty complicated functions for just a tracking cookie, if that's what it is. Generally they just link to a popup window or a new site, not replicate the one you're currently browsing. The ad appearing also seems to be entirely random. So far I've only seen it once a day, but it's also at different times each day. Considering more than one person has come across it, we'd either have to do the same sites (and I literally only look at a total of 5 sites anymore, all trusted), so someone snuck it into the ad rotation.

EDIT: Ok, I ran a full scan, deleted EVERY cookie and temporary file, and the ad just came up again. It's the site, not me.
fffff, there's a second one. This time for Netflix.

Apparently it is one of our remnant ad providers - I've informed my ad guys, and they are on it. They know I am very annoyed by this as it reflects poorly on the site so hopefully it is stopped soon.

Well by this being started I cleared off a lot of potentially dangerous cookies, but hey, least we found where the problem was coming from.
