Description

During installation you’ll get the option to use an optimized rendering of the original 1997 Fallout font, exclusively at the Pip-Boy. This is based on a truetype conversion by Sébastien “Red!” Caisse. I’ve applied various optimizations to allow it to fit better into the Pip-Boy, become more readable and smooth, and fix issues with various characters including umlaut symbols.

I’ve also managed to fix a wrapping bug that plagues most 3rd party fonts I’m aware of. This bug causes an empty line to be inserted under strings whose length is close to wrapwidth. It doesn’t appear frequently, but it’s quite annoying when it does. The method for the fix is outlined at the VUI+ forum.

The font is shorter than vanilla’s default, but still easily readable. In the example screenshot, you can see all 14 skills (as enabled by the JIP-LN plugin) fitting without a scrollbar. This isn’t a simple font replacement. All Pip-Boy menus had to be edited to use the font in its full potential, with proper alignment and correct spacing.
