Pre-Installation Part One : Backing up files (this is optional, Steam's built in "verify integrity of game cache" will reset your game if required)
Create a folder to house your backed up files. This folder MUST NOT be inside the "CookedPCConsole" folder of your game!
Create these emtpy folders :
Backup Folder\Engine\Shaders\ES2
Backup Folder\PecanGame\CookedPCConsole
Head to your games installation folder (see Installation Part 2 if unsure) and then navigate to Engine\Shaders\ES2.
Copy Prefix_Common.glsl to your backup folder in the appropriate location
Now navigate to PecanGame\CookedPCConsole in your games installation folder.
Copy these files to your backup in the appropriate location :
DEFGEN_UnlocksVersus_SF.UPK
DEFGEN_UnlocksVersus_SF.UPK.uncompressed_size
Engine.UPK
Engine.UPK.uncompressed_size
PecanGame.UPK
PecanGame.UPK.uncompressed_size
STARTUP_INT.UPK
STARTUP_INT.UPK.uncompressed_size

Pre-Installation Part Two : Removing old files
(THIS STEP IS REQUIRED OR THE GAME WILL CRASH IMMEDIATELY ON START)

Head to your games installation folder (see Installation Part 2 if unsure) and then navigate to PecanGame\CookedPCConsole and DELETE the following files :
DEFGEN_UnlocksVersus_SF.UPK.uncompressed_size
Engine.UPK.uncompressed_size
PecanGame.UPK.uncompressed_size
STARTUP_INT.UPK.uncompressed_size

These files are used to tell the game to uncompress these pack files when it starts. The modded files are already uncompressed and so the game will crash if these
exist. If your game crashes immediately on starting, this is the cause.

Installation Part One : Engine Settings
Inside the Mod archive are 3 primary folders, firstly open "My Documents" in the archive and copy/drag "My Games" and paste this folder into your own "My Documents"
on your computer. Choose to replace any files that already exist.

These files are REQUIRED for the rest of the mod to function, and cannot be used by themselves. The game will use the best, most advanced graphical options for all
graphics cards regardless of if it is known to the game or not.
For anyone struggling with performance issues on lower cards : After installing these files head to My Documents\My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config\
and remove "read only" from PecanEngine.ini. When you next start the game, use the in-game graphics options to configure the game for acceptable performance.
DO NOT CLICK "RESTORE DEFAULT" - THIS WILL REMOVE CODE FROM THE FILE THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE MOD TO WORK

Installation Part Two : Core Mod Files
Now open the "Game Installation - Core Files" folder in the archive and copy all sub-folders to your game installation folder.
Note : Traditionally this is c:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Aliens Colonial Marines\ however if you are unsure, in steam right click
ACM and choose properties. Select the Local Files tab, and then press "Browse Files". You can paste the mod files directly to this folder that opens.

These files are REQUIRED for the rest of the mod to function, and cannot be used by themselves. The game WILL NOT use many improvements if the Engine Settings are not
present!

Installation Part Three : Master Effects
Finally open the "Game Installation - Master Effects" folder in the archive. Inside are the following folders :
Core Files : Copy the contents of this folder to your game if you wish to use any of the below Master Effects setups. The following folders contain config files only.
Ultra Quality : SMAA, SSGI (Max Quality), DOF (Max Quality), Tonemapping, Color Remapping, HSV Remapping, Gamma/Lift/Gain Adjustments
High Qaulity : SSGI (High Quality), DOF (Max Quality), Tonemapping, Color Remapping, HSV Remapping, Gamma/Lift/Gain Adjustments
Medium Quality : SSGI (Low Quality), DOF (High Quality), Tonemapping, Color Remapping, HSV Remapping, Gamma/Lift/Gain Adjustments
Low Quality : DOF (Medium Quality), Tonemapping, Color Remapping, HSV Remapping, Gamma/Lift/Gain Adjustments
Lowest Quality : Tonemapping, Color Remapping, HSV Remapping, Gamma/Lift/Gain Adjustments

It is HIGHLY recommended to play the game with Master Effects. Lowest Quality has almost no performance impact and improves the look of the game dramatically.
That said, Master Effects is completely optional and does not need to be used. You will need to adjust in-game brightness to compensate without it.

Post Installation (Optional disable-hud key)
Head to My Documents\My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config\ and open PecanInput.ini with a text editor
Under the heading [Engine.PlayerInput] insert the following line
Bindings=(name="F6",Command="Togglehud")

This completely disables all in-game hud elements (health, ammo, crosshair, hit marker, health overlay, prompts, progress bars) for maximum immersion

delete these (if they exist) :
DEFGEN_UnlocksVersus_SF.UPK.uncompressed_size

5) Enjoy the game

It looks like you did not get the My Documents file installed properly. try doing Installation Step 1 again (just that step)

im just confused about install of the Master Effects/Core files. Do I copy and paste all of the files from this folder into steam\steamapps\common\Aliens Colonial Marines\

or, do I just copy and paste the ones I want. And, do is that the right location for these files? or do they go somewhere else. Sorry, I'm new to this.

Thanks!

Core Files contains all the files for the Master Effects Suite. everything in that folder must be installed into the game (where you have indicated) and that is all you need to do. Use one of the other folders if you find it too hard on your machine (or not enough!).

I feel like i installed mine wrong. It isnt looking good at all. Could the cloud save be interfering with the settings? Can you make an install video for us to follow?

thanks so much for this. But I'm gutted as I can't get it to run. I'm on steam, have followed the instructions step by step - twice but the game crashes on launch. I have definitely remove the uncompressed files as instructed but the damned thing does load. Game was nearly installed again so it is up to date but I also never saw the DEFGEN_UnlocksVersus_SF.UPK.uncompressed_size file.

Any advice what I could check?

Was just having this discussion with James in PM. That file doesn't exist in a vanilla install of ACM - so you don't need to worry about that part.

for anyone having the same problem with crashing on startup, I completely deleted the content in My Games including the entire Aliens folder and then started the game up one time. i then installed the mod as instructed and it works. holy **** it is terrifying. they are so quick!

I tried this and it's still crashing at startup :/ I followed the instructions precisely, though I used the Medium Quality folder. What am I missing?

RG where did you put the files from Installation Step 2? If you right click on ACM in steam, choose properties, click the "local files" tab and then press "browse files" this will take you to the folder those files go to.

Everyone will be greatly relieved to hear an amazing guy by the name of JonnyThunder has written a quick installer for the mod which will come with V3

That is where I put them. I tried following the detailed instructions, I tried the fix mentioned above, I tried the "quick and dirty" instructions at the top of this thread... Same thing every time; crashes at startup.

Move to V3, run the installer and choose all the options
Open the Readme.txt file and follow the manual instructions for "01 My Documents"
Go into My Documents\My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config\ and make sure these files are read-only :
PecanGame.ini
PecanCompat.ini
PecanEngine.ini

Let me know if this resolves the issue.

I will be working on fixing the installer tonight and releasing a patch so that everyeone with issues will be able to resolve them once and for all

I had Steam do a file check to clean out the changes, then installed the new V3 and it works beautifully ^_^ Thank you! Now I just need to upgrade my video card so it isn't choppy at the higher graphics settings lol

Ive been dying to try this. I know this download is for computer. Wanted to know if there was a version for the Xbox 360. It's about time a creative like mind redid this title. I'm a huge fan of this Film and game. Hate all the bad reviews it got, especially for bughunts. Any info would be appreciated.

If someone had a cracked xbox and installed ACM onto the drive, then copied these files over the installation, alot of the changes would take effect. Probably bring the FPS down to single digits though

downloaded and installed V3/V4.
now it gives windows error report screen at startup, and
constantly tries to restart.

I followed the V3 instructions, but it only moved the point
at which it generates the error report.

Game worked fine before the mod attempt.
Can anyone help?

Tried everything as stated above. Followed all instructions to a T. Still crashes on startup. Not sure what else to do. I did notice on the installation that the green bar doesn't go all the way to the end. It stops about 3/4 there and says installation complete... Not sure why

I am downloading this mod and will install it tomorrow.

What I want to know is doe this mod fix the god awful macrostutter issue that Aliens: Colonial Marines is infamous for.

Even after installing and overclocking a water cooled Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming GTX1080 and giving my Rig a Platinum Grade 850w PSU to give more power, for said GTX1080 to function correctly, this game still stuttered like crazy, and that's why I had given up on it.

So does this mod fix the stuttering, or is it just a graphics enhancement mod? I hope the stuttering is fixed tomorrow when I install the mod. Aliens: Colonial Marines would have to be the least optimized game I've layed, hands down.

I got the mod installed and played it a little bit last night, and it ran fine. I tried starting it up on Steam this morning, and the splash screen wouldn't come up, but Steam said the game was running. I tried verifying game cache and reinstalling the mod, but the same thing happened. I took the d3d9.dll file out of the binaries folder and the splash screen did come up and the game did try to start but then crashed shortly after. Any tips?

I just tried taking both the d3d9.dll and the EasyHook.dll out of the binaries folder and the game finally starts. Not sure if the graphical enhancements still work, as I haven't checked yet, but I will update shortly.
