It's a darn shame that I've never gotten wind of this fighter. It's not bad looking, although the X-wing still looks like a more advanced fighter to me.

Well it is definatly a more simple design, but it does seem more manoeverable which is kinda the point.

Well if you consider that this fighter has more powerful offensive weaponry, a small profile (making it harder to shoot down), better shields, and a fully enclosed astromech bay (protecting the astromech during combat)...it is the much better fighter. Of course, those improvements came after a lot of revisions.

In this case it would be wise to include researching of projects rather than global tech level. Something like this is in Phoenix Rising Mod. There could be 2 or 3 versions of this fighter to research one after another.

Love this fighter!

Though in 'canon' Luke always preferred the X-wing over it. I think it came down to personal taste at that point.

Alot of past X-2ing pilots did really. Due to the high usage in the Rebel Alliance many pilots had personal attachments to their ships. For over five years Luke never erased the memories on his X-wings computer just because the on Board AI,Luke, and R2 had too much history together and he was insanely attached to that X-Wing.

Yep, it's something they were familiar with and that they were connected to. This type of connection is really very real, being seen between soldier and horse, pilot and craft (tank, fighter, etc), captain and ship.

I'd feel attached too if I blew up a death star with it.

I think it's just more of a survival thing... Like, it got you through this alive so it makes you feel safe. People make all kinds of strong and sometimes strange bonds to things or to each other when it's helped them survive harsh circumstances.

For some reason with the highlights on the texture, the ones meant to represent paint scratches, it makes the ship look a bit plasticy. I think making the armor lines darker would fix it, or bumping the contrast up slightly overall would do it too. Using paint scratches is a great way to make a ship look more real, I just feel it didnĀ“t work out as great on this ship as on others like the gladiator or the airspeeder, which made masterful use of it.

Geroenimo might be right as these are things i cannot reason about tho what i can add is that the lone little rrapeziums on the outer wings are a bit odd, same for the underpainted belly. Shouldnt ground forces be able to pick the overflying aircraft apart? :) just a suggestion in the end it doesnt really matter.

In this era of war, soldier's wouldn't be relying on painted symbols to tell friend from foe. They probably have some kind of friend/foe computer system built right into their HUD or something. Who knows? I just didn't like paint anywhere I put it on the belly...

As for the "plastic" look, I do know what you mean. The shots are taken from the ALO viewer, which never looks as good as the in-game shots but there is still something about the material that is off. I think maybe the specularity is too high so it flattens/washes out the surface, making it appear fake. Idk... I'll play around with it.

I always hated Xwings because of the Laser emplacement choices just not practical at all. I hate the Z95 even more for that though.

What made the x wings work. is their unusual design and limited numbers in the 4th movie. It made a good stark contrast with the imperial tie horde. Xwings almost had an air of hand made machines fit for the rebels.

As for bad placements, im sure the lasers could be made to swivel a bit if we allow some common sense in star wars. In ww2 they used gun convergence on wing kounted weapons to make the tracers cross at a certain distance to deliger max firepower km sure this works the same, or could. Anyway dont overthink stR wars hehe

Right on. I always assumed the X-wing took advantage of gun convergence. The guns being located so far out, on the wingtips would give it considerable range in this regard. However, it would make it terrible in a dogfight as well because the convergence zone would be some distance from the fighter, making up-close shots nearly impossible. At the end of the day though, I think what the X-wing relies on the most is "suspension of disbelief". ;)

Isn't there a bit in one (or more) of the X-Wing novels where the engineers zero in the lasers at a particular distance/range for a mission?

Yep, there is :) The do it specifically for the mission requirements...I think because they needed pinpoint accuracy to disable a ship, not destroy it? Maybe? It's been a while since I've read the series.

Damn, spelling sure does start to suck when you have that 5 minute edit timer.

Suspension of disbelief and the fact that they could never fit this kuch firepower on the nose let alone have place for additional torpedos or bombs, so ya know its both sexy and sorta fuctional xD. At least. Few scifis since provided ships as iconic as the tie fighters. Hmm

I did like the revamped cylons, especially scar.

Never liked that gun on the top looks silly and forced. But a fantastic job on the model and especially the texture. Well done. :D

Hmm, I'm curious. Since the E-wing was supposed to replace the X-wing, how exactly do the two differ in terms of actual gameplay?

The e-wing is more maneuverable and has better weapons. However, the X-wing is potentially faster, especially with s-foils closed. In gameplay, the E-wing will come in later tech levels and be a slightly more expensive but slightly better fighter than the x-wing.

Description

Developed to replace the aging X-wing fighter, the E-wing was plagued with teething problems. The initial designs suffered from poor offensive weaponry and worse than expected maneuverability. Because of this, the X-wing remained the fighter of choice for the New Republic for many years.

However, after several revisions and improvements, the E-wing would eventually become a superior fighter, even surpassing the X-wing in performance. It's early-run issues though meant that the E-wing never did achieve the popularity and wide-spread use that the X-wing enjoyed.
