Mossflower Total War is a fan modification for Total War Medieval 2: Kingdoms being made by FleshEatingBeans and a small team of dedicated contributors. We aim to re-create the feeling of cult-classic Redwall novels by Brian Jaques in the medium of a civilization-building and tactical combat videogame.
We seek to follow the world presented in the books, audiobooks and an animated show as closely as reasonable, while adding canon-friendly content of our own to fill out gaps and up the fun factor.
The first release will include:
- A campaign themed around the titular Redwall novel. Take charge of a horde of brigands and pirates as the deranged Cluny the Scourge, or defend Mossflower to your last breath as the Warrior of Redwall Abbey!
- A variety of units fulfilling varied roles on the battlefield. Learn to use your troops effectively, liberate settlements to get more beasts to join your side!
- Carefully thought through visual style to bring that magical early Autumn feel to the game world.
- Campaign mechanics to make each faction a unique challenge, while being thematically appropriate to their book counterpart.
Hello! It's been a while! A lot of things has happened in the last 4 months, but the bottom line is - the mod is alive and being worked on. Let me address each of the things that happened and lay out a bit of a roadmap for the future.
A few weeks after the May devlog I have experienced a significant loss of files. I still don't know what exactly caused this, but I have a working theory. I suspect that in my attempt to clear some space on my PC I have wiped the Medieval 2 folder, with all my WIP content and the whole animation setup. As a result I had to revert to an earlier build posted on ModDB. The new models for the map, as well as the map itself were also lost.
It took me most of the summer to gain back the look that I wanted, set up all the stratmap models, re-do all the regions and terrain from scrap, etc. The map is finished and will be available next release in the coming months. Here are some screenshots.
After that, my overall performance at modding suffered a massive dip. Work problems, uncertainty, and the recent war in Israel have taken their toll, and I wasn't able to find the strength to make this mod for nearly all of September and October. But I am alive and moderately safe, so the potential is there. We made some new stratmap models, as well as voice clips for rat units.
Overall, the progress is being made. Next update will likely feature the complete and somewhat playable map, new units and a bit of test voice acting. Thank you for sticking around! Eulalia!
