And then there's the people who say "I wish DayZ had these visuals" while the engine is from 2004, haha! I love those moments.
Still shows how Xray (while upgraded to now-a-days standards) can still rank amongst the graphical beasts like Metro, Crysis and Battlefield!
lol BF3/BF4 have average graphics except with some decent textures, with an abundance of post-processing applied to make it shiny. X-ray does do a lot of things better than most.
While I agree on BF3/4 using a lot of post process effects, but the tech behind frostbite 2 / 3 is some of the higher standard out there. Their sound engine and global illumination techniques are very, very well done. Xray can learn from this. I don't think the "r2_gi" was ever fixed in Xray.
Yeah I don't think it was ever completed, they didn't expect people to be able to run it. But it's funny looking around in BF3/BF4 and seeing how flat everything is, seeing the lack of bump mapping and complete lack of parallax mapping in the world.
That's mostly because they had to cater to 3 different platforms and creating a big quality difference for either of them was 'too much' work for EA (reminder: EA, the company who's pushing deadlines at the cost of expenses). Most guys over at DICE agreed with the community themselves about BF4 being a ****** game, because it's not finished, even now.
*IF* Battlefield would've been a PC exclusive, it might not have turned out so big, but that isn't what BF1942, BF2142 or BF2 made so great, it was the fact that for the time these games were released, they were really, REALLY good. I still play BF2 with mods etc. because it's that good, just like our beloved STALKER. You notice a complete degradation in quality when developers decide to side with a company like EA who's all about the $$$ :/ Their content severely decreasing in quality and just expands in quality.
