Personally I liked how older verisons of A Path Beyond used an M24 Chaffee as the allied light tank but an M48 works well too!

I considered it but even for RA's tech in the altered time period I felt it was too antiquated and outgunned when compared to what the Soviets had.

I wouldn't want to be in a fight with T-80s (double barreled or not) in an M24!

Yeah at least the IRL M48A5 (as depicted here) had the same 105mm as the XM-1 to go up against the T-72 and T-80. And while in reality it's also a Medium Tank, considering its nearly 25 tons lighter than the M1A2 AKA the Medium Tank in TD/RA it fits as a "light" tank in this tech tree.

The M48 actually doesn't fit as a light tank at all since it's a main battle tank, not a light tank, and its armament doesn't match the RA light tank, which has a 75mm cannon. In this aspect, the M24 fits perfectly since it actually is a light tank with a cannon of the same calibre as the RA light tank, and it also fits the time period since RA1's tech ranges from the 1940s through the Cold War era. Other options include the Cromwell, AMX-13 and M41 Bulldog (the last one being what the RA light tank appears to have been loosely based on in the cutscenes).

If anything, the M48 would make far more sense as the medium tank since that would also match the time period, plus it'd visually distinguish the Allied medium tank from its GDI successor. Another thing you could try is putting the M48 turret on the Abrams hull, since that would better match the RA medium tank sprite with its smaller turret compared to the GDI version.

True on that. Though I was trying to make something that still resembled the game sprite besides the Bradley that was reused from TD. I might still do some of the things you suggested, I would also like to eventually implement the nation subfactions and give them unique units/vehicle reskins using some other lesser known vehicles from the period. Even though I had an unused M48 model already made, the shortlist of vehicles I had also considered was the M41 Walker Bulldog that you mentioned En.wikipedia.org or the Swiss Made Panzer 68 since it too resembles the game sprite. Regarding your comment about the turret swap, I also considered making a fictional variant of the M60-2000 which I previously made a model of. Moddb.com

A fictional variant of the M60-2000 would be a good way to go for the medium tank, although in RA's case it should be a kind of 'reverse' of the real-world version; instead of an M60 hull with an Abrams turret, it could instead be an Abrams hull with an M60A1 turret, since this would match the sprite fairly well and also form a somewhat logical basis for 'upgraded' versions (essentially evolving into the real Abrams tank in the decades following the war) being later used by GDI.

Description

This is the stand in for the Allied "Light Tank" from the original Red Alert game. I know the original game depicted a reskinned M2 Bradley IFV based on the icon but here it is gonna be based off of the "Light Tank" inspired from early versions of RA:APB and real life NATO military forces from the period of Red Alert. It also fits in better with the game sprite. Static.wikia.nocookie.net The model is an unused M48A5 Patton from my archives that I revisited and textured as both it and the M60 operated alongside the M1 Abrams (aka the Allied Medium Tank) all the way up until the first Persian Gulf War IRL.
