why are the roman factions not one, or rather said, why do they declare war upon each other?

Because of gameplay reasons. Having one Roman faction would make it 1. OP and 2. impossible to do quests in.

Gotta agree with gokiller here on this one. In warband if a faction is too big and has a **** load of vassals well prepare the lube for thy anus or the anus of thy enemies cause its a one sided slaughter. Although of course it makes sense for a big faction such as the roman empire to slaughter the smaller ones but you don't want the roman empire to literally curbstomp the entire map in one month. Also it makes it interesting as the Roman empire did also have some infighting too so its not too far off if we were to say historical.

Could always make it like Attila where the Roman Empire is huge, but very weak and only have a few vassals to cover all of its territory.

I saw on a video of 1257AD (from there main post so I think it was actually someone to do with the development) there were a great number of rebels in the area and the player said the faction was having a rebel uprising (that is a possibility you could just have a really high number and often occurrence of rebel uprisings within the Roman Empire.

Although whilst resolving the issue of them not being able to take over the map due to having to deal with the rebel scum, this would take a very long time and much effort to code in aswell as having to change the factions and faction actions (I have not modded M&B yet or even looked at the code so I can only assume)

Also, it makes sense because, often times, the Roman Empire was subdivided for administrative purposes or in civil war.

No they weren't. There was a grand total of ONE civil war in the Empire in the era of the mod.

Incorrect. There were two. Caesar fought the first, his Nephew(who changed his name to Caesar). Fought a second civil war to reclaim the Empire.

Roman Gaul in particular rebelled on a number of occasions from Octavian onward.

Caesar died before the Empire even existed.

I want to clear up some of this misinformation in the comments.

There wasn't "common infighting" in either the Republic or Empire. Having regions declare war on eachother and conquer eachother makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever, they should either be permanent allies or neutral.

During the republic there were THREE civil wars (people keep forgetting about the first one with Marius and Sulla). There were some in the Empire as well, but it's not like every other decade they were in civil war.

The empires wasn't also "often times split up". The empire got so big that an Emperor decided that it would be best to split the Empire in two to better administrate it all. This created the "western" and "eastern" empires. Both were still called "Rome", both were still Roman, and they still acted as one Empire, but administrated by an emperor each.

The eastern later became referred to by modern historians as the "Byzantine Empire" which is a terrible name an inaccurate one at that, but whatever, people still call it Byzantium, even tho when it was still around, it was still called Rome.

For that matter, the Socii wars were kind of civil wars too. If you add in those types of engagements, it's fair to say the Empire was very often at war with itself. That's why the era of the 5 good emporers was so important.

Where are the Slavic Tribes? I do not know much about this period of history, but I see at the beginning of the game you can choice to be Slavic, but I do not see any of their clothing or weapons used, nor do I see Tribes or territory. Great mod by the way, one of my favorites for sure.
