THE STORY
42 students have been chosen by national lottery to participate in the BR program. The premise of the game is simple: the students kill each other off one by one until there is a sole survivor.

Each student is fitted with a metal collar that tracks where they are, relays their vital signs, and records their conversations. It serves a much more sinister purpose. If the game runs past the allotted time limit, or if a student enters a forbidden area, a small explosive nestled up against their throat explodes violently.

The forbidden zones pop up at regulated intervals and are announced prior to their activation. Anyone got in a forbidden zone when it goes hot will have their collar detonated.

Each student receives a weapon that is randomly assigned to them. This can be anything from a shotgun, an Uzi, or hand grenades, to a pot lid, paper fan, or dinner fork.

The time limit is based on student deaths. If there is no death in 24 hours, the collars will explode. Theoretically, the game could last for over a month! The mod will not reflect this time table. ;-)

As the mod nears completion, we'll add more information for each of the 42 characters.

THE GAMEPLAY
There is not much that can be divuldged about the mod right now, but I'll tell you everything I can.

The mod is an total conversion, multiplayer game taking place in one of four different settings, of those being the map from the book itself. The maps are huge, including indoor and outdoor environments, and dense forested areas with tons of cover.

In the game, the player will assume one of the 42 students from the book, or make your own (if that option is allowed by the server). Every player will receive a random weapon and leave the starting point at timed intervals. Once outside, the game begins.

COMBAT

The player will have many moves from the start. A number of hand-to-hand attacks, as well as counters, are assigned to each player. There will also be a large amount of counters at your disposal that can kill in one hit.

If a melee weapon is equipped, such as a knife or coat hanger (I kid you not!), the view will kick to third person. If a projectile (crossbow, gun) weapon is equipped, the view closes in to first person.

ITEMS

All over the maps are items you can use or combine to heal yourself (which takes time), set traps, or find away to stop the brutal game. Yes, you can actually play like Shinji Mimura and find a way to stop the BR program. This is no small task in any light.

There are also factors to consider, such as your health, your fatigue, or your appearance. If you kill, you get a little blood on your clothing for all to see.

That is all for now. That is maybe 1/20 of all the cool stuff we have planned! Stick around!!

I wanted to see this mod happen, especially for UT2K4. But now (that it is dead) I won't be able to see it happen. *sigh*

Darn it...

what about a Battle Royale 3 with new rules as an alternative game mode later on.

two teams facing each other until all members of one team is dead. the split secont one team wins it slits up and becomes 2 and conitue to do so until theres only on1 player left.

Example:

team1 16 - 16 team2
"team2 wins but lost 4 members"
team1 0 - 12 team2
"team2 splits up"
team1 6 - 6 team2
"team1 wins but loses 1 player"
team1 5 - 0 team2
"team1 splits up"
team1 3 - 2 team2
"team1 wins again but loses 1 player"
team1 2 - 0 team2
"team1 splits up"
team1 1 - 1 team2
"team2 kills team1, player og team2 is the last survivor"

the gametype should be played on rather small maps with intence gamespeed.

Assault gametype like the one in BR2 would also be nice.

Actually, the BR ACT in the book mandated that students had 24 hours for the first casualty, or the collars would explode. As soon as the first student died, they then had another 24 hours... and so on. So, the game could take as long as 42 days to complete if one student died every 24 hours.

We are working right now on at least 4 ideas that would encourage teamwork and deception. I wish I could elaborate on them now, but stay tuned for more!

As far as weapons go, people with projectile weapons, such as guns and crossbows, will move slower, jumper shorter, and be in first person view, all of which even the playing field. Those with melee weapons will be in third person. Also, weapons scattered across the island in hidden places will make those who get bad weapons able to compete... if they look hard enough.

i think i order to over come the problems Em came up with maybe the class from BR1 could go up against the class from BR2. that would make up a team of sorts so that one group couldn't kill their teamates, they have to kill the opposing team. this would allow for more chances of a teamwork type of atmosphere.
to overcome the weapons trouble, how about we just have bags on a rack that the player chooses for their character, that would be random and the player would think it's nobody's fault but there's cause they chose the bag of weapons. got this from BR1 when the old student came back and asked for the bag he wanted.
in regards to the large maps, how about just have zone fights where the groups fight within a zone, that'd lower the size that the map would have to be and the rounds would be fast and fun. let me know what you think.

In Battle Royale, the BR act was only in effect for 3 days maximum... After 3 days, if more than one kid was still alive, they'd blow everyone up. That's why they were in such a big rush in the last 20 minutes of the movie... Because it was nearly hour 72, with only 15 minutes to go...

Anyway... To do a good BR MOD, you'd need a better engine than UT2k4 (or for that matter *ANY* FPS engine)... I mean, the map would have to be *HUGE* (several miles)... And how could you implement it to make it fair for those who have the bad "weapons?" In Battle Royale, to compensate, there were clumsy and stupid players... Like the axe-wielding guy...

There were also players who used deceit and cunning to kill off others, such as the **** who seduced the male contestants and sliced their throats....

But I'd say the biggest thing you miss out on in a FPS game MOD is the sense of teamwork, and comradery... When in a life-threatening situation, Humans will work together (like they do in BR). There are so many variables you can't compensate for...

Including low health... Chances are you're going to be critically injured long before 41 other people are dead...

Just my thoughts... Thanks.
