I. Description:

This is a new version of the Axis Player mod for Call of Duty: World at War. The idea of the mod is to change all Allied forces into Axis forces and vice versa in order to reverse the campaign. THIS MOD IS NOT SUPPOSED TO PROMOTE ANY IDEOLOGY! I would also like to point out that I was not able to change every single thing, I may patch the mod again in the future - I hope everyone can understand that and still have some fun. It was tested in singleplayer, coop and in zombies - the crashes were rare, it should work just fine in most cases; if it crashes just try restarting the game.

DISCLAIMER! It is possible to get a multiplayer ban for using the modified binaries - thanks to CptWesley for the info.

II. Installation:

a) Steam version:

  1. Go to *YOUR HARD DRIVE*\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Call of Duty World at War
  2. Change the name of the old 'codlogo.bmp' file to 'codlogo (2).bmp'
  3. Put the new 'codlogo.bmp' and 'd3d9.dll' files in the 'Call of Duty World at War' folder
  4. Go to *YOUR HARD DRIVE*\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Call of Duty World at War\Main
  5. Put the new 'iw_28.iwd' and 'iw_29.iwd' files in the 'Main' folder
  6. Go to C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\Mods (you may have to turn on hidden folders in order to see it or you may have to create that folder)
  7. Put the 'Axis Player - Expanded Edition v. 1.3' folder in the 'Mods' folder
  8. Launch the game, turn on the mod and play

ATTENTION! Please restart the game after starting the 'Eviction' mission and before starting the 'Black Cats' mission, otherwise 'Black Cats' will crash. Minimizing the game might also cause a crash.

b) DVD version (with patch 1.7):

  1. Go to *YOUR HARD DRIVE*\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War
  2. Change the name of the old 'codwaw.exe' and 'codlogo.bmp' files to 'codwaw (2).exe' and 'codlogo (2).bmp'

  8. Launch the game, turn on the mod and play

How do I find the 'iw_28.iwd' and 'iw_29.iwd' files and put them to the right place? I'm not seeing them anywhere and it's my only step that I can't accomplish.

Game crashes at the start of the cutscene of EVERY level and says "exceeded limit of 2048 material assets"

Alright some of you we're wondering how to change the voice lines to German. Just switching the game's localization to German and then running the mod will only cause it to crash when you load up a mission, so I'm here to teach you how to actually do it.

1. Go into steam and change the game's language to German and wait for it to update
2. Go into Steam Apps/common/CoDWaW/zone and copy the folder in there called "German"
3. Go into CodWaw/Main and copy all the "localized_german_iw" files (there should be 7 of them 00 to 06)
4. Go back into steam and switch the game's language back to English and wait for it to update.
5. Go back into CodWaw/zone again and replace the "english" folder with "German" and rename it to "english" (just delete the original "english" folder).
6. Go back into CodWaw/Main and replace all the "localized_english" files with the "localized_german" files, and make sure they are in order... as in 00 at the top and 06 at the bottom (just to be safe).

And that should work, enjoy!

Whenever I do this it defaults to the German censored version which removes all gore and messes with banners and removes some scenes. How do I fix this?

The only thing I can think to do is download an uncensored patch for the German version of the game and run it on top of this mod, this may or may not work I don't know.

I have the link to a patch download page here: Call-of-duty.fandom.com, but all the instructions are in German so you might have to sit there with google translate for a while and decipher the instructions.
