it won't be bigger than the last upload. that much I can promise. I've deleted over 8,000 files in the last year and brought the overall size down by over 500 megs. I plan on reducing the size of the mod further.

How were you able to trim so much out of the mod? Was it buildings, duplicate skins?

How is your progress in the mod bro? and 500 mb is about 30% of the mod size which is great job
this should optimize the game a lot more and glad u were able to fix the artillery they were a pain to deal with.

two specific things: getting rid of over half of the unique buildings.

the biggest offender was airfields. we have a new version of airfields where we use the exact same building model for multiple countries... and we distinguish them by using waving flags for that nation. that allowed us to carve out a pretty large chunk of data all by itself. players won't have unique airplane models to look at to figure out what airplanes are operating out of a particular airfield. they'll have to click on the building and read the name.

the other cheat was eliminating the national markings on Corps HQs, division tents, depots, and tech brigades. alpha team colors will be used to clarify who owns what building. so, for example, if Denmark, the Netherlands, and Yugoslavia all have VERY similar camo patterns I grouped them together.

the other big detail was combining all of the unique artillery units into a single folder and using more specific names. as it turned out the wheel textures were the largest file. so getting rid of a half-dozen duplicate skins for the artillery units helped out a lot as well.

I also got rid of the Guards and Waffen SS Mech and Armor units... since they were too over-powered. I decided that I would keep the Waffen SS Infantry tents.. and use the same one for all axis nations with that tech. I'm on the fence about the Soviet Guards infantry... because I think it might be more interesting to give them access to partisan tech instead.

I think it would also be possible to replace many models of cars and tanks with simpler versions. Many of them are too detailed.
But this is too much work, I understand.

Description

updated the US airborne artillery units to make them look a bit more historically accurate. we've also changed the LVT amphibious tank models to make them look better. I've made the decision to get rid of the unique US national markings on the LVT. the reason being is that we're going to add some armored royal marines regiments as an amphibious option to some of the British ships.

I tried to make some unique historical skins... but after several days of failing to get the result I wanted I settled for the single color unmarked versions we see here.
