Hi guys.
I finally managed to finish something. This is my second total conversion for Amnesia.
Do not expect something amazing :) cause I had barely two weeks to finish this
STORY:
Your father had died and left you phonograph message.
You can barely remember something about your childhood on Hilltop Manor. The only thing you remember is that dreadful fire where you lost your brother, sister and your dearest mother
FIRST INFORMATION
Hello everyone.I just wanted to let you know that thanks to the Amnesia The Dark Descent Workshop finally being released onto Steam after 3 centuries, I've gotten back into modding and decided that it's time to finally do a proper Definitive Edition of a few mods.
This will include:
ORIGINAL REMASTERED VERSION
The original remasters were more of a revenge, where I made some minor changes to the maps, but mostly just re-wrote the journals without really thinking about them.
It must have been clear to you that the remastered versions were not made out of love for modding, but out of hatred for someone.
NEW REMASTERED VERSION
What ca you look forward to, and what can you expect to see?
Čeština na Decayed History ---------------------------- Vložte obsah raru do složky modu a přepiště.

This mod is unplayable for me. I can play all my other custom stories and full mods in 4k resolution with a gtx 2080 at 60fps, but not Decayed History. That outside area at the beginning drops my fps in half to the 30s. Frame rate also takes a massive hit inside the house. And I am also experiencing a constant flicker/flashing of the screen that never stops. Like I said, I don't experience these issues with any other story or full mod. I will have to pass on this one.
That blinking is eye blink
I though that people will realise that :)
Blinking eye? I thought something was wrong with my computer. That has got to be one of the most obnoxious deliberately sabotaging effects ever put into a full mod or custom story. You really should think about releasing a version without it. Seriously, it's beyond distracting to some people.
oh well I enjoyed it >>> kudos in making this in a short time>> hope you can create another
Moddb.com
nvm
guess you played without patch :)
I am gonna give you one tiny advice - improve your grammar and think a little bit more about the whole story. Im not saying they are horrible, but they are the only thing stopping me from giving your mod a solid 8. If complicated english is too difficult for you, just use ordinary sentences and forms in a right way.
I liked the cs but why does both endings say the same... that I die etc?
Honestly, I really do not understand why people find the puzzles so hard. With a tiny bit of exploration and reading notes, every puzzle is clear. Had no problems with it all. It was refreshing to not have to search for rods, cogwheels, coal, pieces of ladder etc.
Wellni thing only one puzzle is hintless and that is stone lever, yet there i pointligh on every throwable rock. And maybe dirt with water. But this is kind of puzzle : use your 🧠 :). But thanks
(buried)
Honestly, this CS deserves more than what people have given it. For a two week project, this is a solid and really enjoyable small custom story, that really got to me with the suspense. It's a bit like the shining for me, no grotesque horror or jumpscares, just pure chilling suspense, which got me quite good as like shadow of the ramlord. The original feeling of the lovecraftian horror that main amnesia did display, got kinda lost in the many custom stories (of course not the great custom stories like Amadeus, the great work etc.), With many "vanilla experience" custom stories I just don't feel the suspense so much as I'm so used to it now after 9 years. Last time I really felt so on edge was with shadow of the ramlord (which people also didn't like due to the lovecraftian style suspense rather than the "grotesque vanilla experience"), I think the amnesia community herein kinda sucks as everyone just wants the "vanilla" experience rather than a true masterpiece that deploys other scare tactics than "placing a monster in every map", if you catch my drift.
Furthermore, what custom stories also make great (with which many people disagree with) is original puzzles. One aspect that made the great work so great was the uniqueness of the puzzles (that deployed real alchemy), it was hard sometimes, yes, but so interesting. If I had to count the times I had to fetch cogwheels or rods, I will be here still tomorrow. It's just outright boring to be to do that still. This custom story uses a different kind of puzzle setup that I actually enjoy as you need to explore, read and think. But I guess this kind of puzzle is not liked by the community simply because people only wants scary stuff in amnesia with simple puzzles and hate it when they have to explore a bit outside of this "comfort" zone with exploration, reading and thinking about the meaning of the puzzles. Everyone likes different things, I agree, and maybe it's just me that likes such puzzles as my favourite games are fantasy Rpg kind of games like the Witcher, Skyrim, mass effect and dragon age. Of all the people I know in the amnesia community, nobody ever told me that Destiny Revenant is in their top 10 CS list, yet it takes number one spot for me. Instead everyone praises a key to freedom and it's the best rated CS on moddb, which I totally disagree with. This is for me proof that the community doesn't like something else than the "vanilla" experience. I just don't understand how people do not get fed up by doing the same exact puzzle over and over again.
Anyway, before I make a whole essay about this. I made a walkthrough of your custom story on YouTube, if you would like, you can check it out. My channel as my name here is custom story gatherers.
People *DO* enjoy puzzles which you "need to explore, read and think". But many of puzzles in this mod are "do this random thing and another even more random thing will happen".
Contrary to what you say, the community hates the copy-paste-from-vanilla puzzles, so it's good that Sabatu at least had some puzzles that weren't copied from the main game (even though many of them had already been done in other mods). He still has a lot to learn and I wish him luck.
"no grotesque horror or jumpscares" - there are like 3 out-of-nowhere screamers in this, how did you reach this conclusion?
All I'm saying is, you are kinda overpraising this mod. You know why I think it's bad? Because it makes the creator happy with what they made, and hence stops them from improving their craft.
I have seen enough in this community to think that, great innovative and creative custom stories are not appreciated due to it not being 'vanilla' enough, e.g. When I am no more, destiny Revenant, Shadow of the Ramlord, Riukka, Persona 2. Whereas, key to freedom (great cs) is number one here, which is greatly overrated, like pulp fiction is in the top ten of films. I saw many developers stop or lose hope just because of the community.
The only puzzle that was random, was the key in the dirt. Since the developer did not reference anything about the key, however the rest was coherent. It was so easy to figure out how to get the other ending by just reading, yet in your review you state that its impossible to get the other ending.
About the jumpscares, I have had enough flying dudes in my face or earrape spawning grunts/brutes in front of your face to appreciate this developer using different sounds to scare.
For a custom story that was developed in 2 weeks, I found myself amazed and surprised how good it was, as often such CS that are made so quickly are mostly disappointing. I am sure that if the developer would put actual time in making a custom story, he could make something epic without much help.
You are kinda underpraising the mod, you shouldnt compare it with great long term projects, as this was made for a contest with a deadline. That's why I only compare this with other short term development custom stories and it clearly stands out of all the other small custom stories I have played. Its only fair to rate it like that.
On the 2-week-dev-time yeah it is mostly good. But the thing is, most of the downsides which I mention aren't caused by the short development time.
You're right about the second ending, but I phrased myself badly in the review. It is clear *what* to do, but it's not clear *if* you can do it. Something as simple as "Ending: Bad" in the credits would probably solve that.
anyway, this is unrelated to Sabatu's mod but;
" I saw many developers stop or lose hope just because of the community." - That's me, honestly. I have almost given up on putting effort into my mod a few times because people praise mediocre bullsh!t on the same level as actually good mods (e.g. Amadeus, Ramlord).
Look I rate custom stories like this. I place custom story in brackets: short term projects & small custom stories (0 to 3 months), medium term projects & medium length custom stories (3 to 12 months), long term projects & long length custom stories (+1 year). Obviously I place this custom story in The small bracket and Amadeus in the long bracket. I will never compare a custom story from a short bracket with a medium and long custom story. It is not fair for this custom story to be compared with Amadeus and it's not fair for Amadeus to be compared with this custom story. I rated this a 9 as I compared this custom story ONLY with other small custom stories I have played and so far this one was more impressive than most other small custom stories.
A nine in the small bracket is not comparable with a nine in the long bracket. They have just complete other meanings, like a 90 in an undergraduate and a 90 in a PhD, if you catch my drift. A 90 in an undergraduate is impressive but doable. A 90 in a PhD is genius and extraordinary. So look at my rating this way, this custom story is like a 90 in an undergraduate and Amadeus is a 100 in a PhD if you need a point of reference.
Your custom stories are at least in the medium length bracket so I didn't not and won't compare this custom story with yours.
wow bro you true are game desgniner probabbly more thanm frictional games
Well thank you for this "Essay" :)
You have my follow... and I am now watching your walkthrough :)
