RTCW Venom Mod

Mod review

Awesome mod, everything looks beautiful in HD - but I particularly think the MP40 looks the best! Now the AI is another story... I can't say that I noticed a difference, to be honest. But I'm sure it is there.

However, there is a couple (almost) game-breaking glitches: the game crashes every time I die. Additionally, the game crashes when I try to load a game from within the pause menu. The game loads up fine from the main menu though, it's just annoying having to exit to the main menu if I die or make a mistake.

Doom 4 For Doom

Mod review

Not gonna lie, I like D4D more than Brutal Doom and Project Brutality. I'd give it a full 10/10 if it wasn't for one complaint: the pistol is just way too over-powered. So is the chainsaw. A single charged shot with the pistol can sometimes take out a Pinky. I even actually killed an Arachnotron more efficiently with the pistol than I could with a super shotgun... same deal with a Baron. And the chainsaw - it kills enemies pretty fast, and it guarantees the demon killed will drop extra health. And since the "primary fire" for the chainsaw doesn't use gasoline, you can easily mow down half the enemies on the map. All of these instances, I was playing on Ultra-Violence. Other than that, it's awesome as hell! Great job on everything! :D

Eternal Damnation

Mod review

Take Manhunt > remove stealth mechanics > put it in first person > give it a scary, Silent Hill-esque atmosphere.
That pretty much sums up Eternal Damnation. Awesome mod, a must have for anyone who owns Postal 2!

This will work with the Steam version, by the way. First, install Share the Pain MP (it can be downloaded from Mod DB). By default, it will want to install to C:/Program Files (x86)/Postal2STP. Install it there, rather than in the Postal 2 folder. Then, download and install Eternal Damnation to the same folder. It will ask if you want to create a desktop shortcut: say yes.
Optional: when finished, open Steam and select "Games" in the top left corner, then click "Add a non-Steam game to my library. Select "Browse," then select the shortcut. Under your game library, you'll find ED and can launch the game from there.

Star Wars: Movie Duels II

Mod review

One of the most incredible mods I've ever seen. It goes along with the prequel stories very well. They even took the time to recycle the voices from the movies. It's like I'm playing the films! Better than some of the official games based on the movies even.

The new HUD looks really nice, and your Force bar goes up to 150 instead of only 100, so that helps out. Saber throw is replaced with the ability to kick. It's really cool, but very hard to kick ememies. I also like that this game doesn't change the base game in any way: you still have the regular HUD and everything. Although it would be nice to use this new HUD in the base game.

I do have one complaint: you can quick save like in the base game, but it's pointless, as you can't load your saves. If you die, you have to restart the level. This is only a very minor issue though, as the missions are generally a little on the short side. Plus, in the pause menu, you can toggle God mode. Even if you don't like using cheats, you can just use it until you get to the point where you died if you're really having issues.

If you made a mod like this on the original trilogy, that would be the best thing ever. I'd even pay money for it, it I had any. Heck, I'd pay for this mode even!

Movie Battles II

Mod review

I was under the impression that this mod also had a single player mode, instead of only multiplayer. I've never been a fan of online gaming, but I admire all the work put into this mod. It wouldn't be fair to give a bad rating because I confused this with the Movie Duels II mod, though. It seems like it would be a good mod for those into online gaming, as long as people still play online!

The Dark Times

Mod review

I recommend downloading the Dark Times II: Rising Son, as it also includes all content from part one.

This mod is about as big as the game itself: it includes 19 new Instant Action maps, a new era to play (called Dark Times), which includes enhanced skins and weapons as well as extra classes from the Galactic Civil War era, new heroes, changing atmosphere, and a new campaign. The maps from this pack change a little each time you play - both the atmosphere, and the playable heroes. That makes the maps have extra play value, and makes the experience a little different each time. The new campaign, entitled Dark Times: Rising Son, can be found in the Galactic Conquest menu. This campaign adds the concept of Galactic Conquest with that of the base Campaign: you get to purchase both Units and Bonuses with credits earned from beating each mission. You control which planet your fleet will go to next in increments of one, just like in Galactic Conquest - except you don't have to worry about the other faction invading the planets you control. The missions are engaging and often provide a challenge. I actually found the Rising Son campaign to be much better than the default campaign. It's very clear that a lot of time and effort was spent into the making of this mod, and of course, it's completely free.

Nemesis of Katarn

Mod review

Nemesis of Katarn is pretty fun, but hard. On level 2, it said I need a key to get through the door. A cut scene played, showing a Rodian telling an officer to go find you, but I couldn't find the officer anywhere. I just went ahead and used the no clip cheat to get through the door.

From what I've played so far, this mod is very well made. The creator of the mod even recycled speech clips to make Kyle and other characters, which contribute to new cut scenes. As a huge Star Wars fan and a story-junkie, I'm very glad to see SP/story oriented mods!

Aldura Campaign

Mod review

The first map is unplayable. It doesn't have a "conquest" option, so it can't be added to the playlist nor be launched.
Map 2 is really fun, just super hard. I kept getting blocked off by Driodikas. I enjoy a challenge though!
Map 3 is my favorite, it has some really nice visuals. Especially the rain!

I enjoyed the new classes and weapons a lot too! I thought it would be a new campaign, instead of just Instant Action maps, but I still liked it. Extra maps are always great! I highly enjoy this mod and would recommend it.

Star Wars Battlefront Conversion Pack

Mod review

The Conversion Pack over doubles the amount of maps you can play on Instant Action, and even includes new classes for each alliance, including improved loadouts and new skins for preexisting classes. Each new class requires X amount of points to play as, so it adds to the fun and challenge. There's also new hero characters, such as Lando Calrissian, Kyle Katarn (from the Jedi Knight series), Tatooine version of Luke Skywalker (instead of a Lightsaber and Force powers, he has a blaster pistol and sniper riffle with unlimited ammo and detpacks). All the maps have such good detail, it's almost as if Pandemic Studios themselves created them. Long story short, this pack is practically the equivalent of a new Battlefront game. The download time is very slow, due to the servers... it took about three hours to download, which was longer than the game itself to download from Steam q: But still well worth it. I'm 21 now, and this was my first mod. I'm glad it provides a step-by-step to show how to install it.

There are crashes every here and there, but it's nothing major. On Endar Spire, however, the game always crashes when I try playing as Lobacca (spelling?). But nothing to complain about.
