If there was something else I could rename the mod.ff file for the sound mod, it seems like it would work. It's just that mod.ff, mod_ex.ff, and mod_patch.ff seem to be the only names the game will recognize and run, and using your file set up, aside from Makin, the rest of the mods all have _patch and _ex ff files already.

I guess alternatively, if it was something you guys would be willing to do I could send the mod files and it could maybe be combined into a future version of the mod? No idea if thats actually possible or convenient to do. Also its not my mod to give away so I'm not sure on the ethics of it, but it seems to be abandonware at this point, it's only available for download on a small handful of obscure sites and the last version appears to be from 2009. It definitely increases immersion by a lot. It's called the Knokploeg Sound Mod, or KP Sound if you guys are interested in looking into it.

This is kind of a modding question in general I guess. I love this mod but I've never liked the base gun sound effects in this game. I've been using a sound mod for years that improve them a lot. I was wondering if its at all possible to use both mods at once? I tried just combining both mods into the same folder, but both mods use mod.ff files that replace each other when trying to put the files from both mods into one folder. Whichever mod is missing its mod.ff file breaks. Renaming it to mod1.ff or something like that breaks it too.

I did find a work around in that naming the mod.ff file for the sound mod "mod_ex.ff" actually works and runs both mods at once. This worked perfectly for the Semper Fi mod. Unfortunately, Peleliu/Vendetta, Ring of Steel and Fall of Berlin all have their own mod_ex.ff files. So I'm kind of at a brick wall now. It doesn't seem like I can name mod.ff anything but mod_ex and still have it work. Is there anyway around this or am I kind of just screwed and going to have to pick one mod or the other?

Is it normal for the game to crash on almost every battle? Mod's great and I'm really wanting to do a campaign, but I can't make it through a single battle so far.

I like the mod a lot! I'm actually doing a playthrough of the campaign with it on youtube right now. I put a link to the mod's page in the descriptions (not that I'll get more than like 30 views tops per video lol)

Yeah it definitely seems the author has moved on to helping with HCTM/HCTM 2. I'm not sure if he's stated that he's not working on it officially or not, if he hasn't I would hope 1.1 does eventually come out but I'm not holding my breath. I still remember when 1.0 itself released like five or six years ago. It is kind of a shame, HCTM is a fantastic mod but I do prefer the B2F version of a lot of the missions. I pretty much play B2F as my "vanilla" CoD 2, and then HCTM for some of the custom missions included with that mod. HCTM also changes a lot of aspects of CoD 2, some for the better and some for worse depending on your preferences, in ways B2F doesn't. B2F also has a lot of really great weapon and character models that HCTM couldn't include due to engine limitations. So while I do love HCTM, 1.1 coming out would be a very welcome surprise. That said, 1.0 is still excellent and worth playing. There's only a few small issues but aside from the Stalingrad sniper mission (one of the objectives is broken), they're all ignorable. 1.0 is very much a complete experience and probably my favorite CoD 2 mod.

A slight suggestion for HTCM 2 if it's at all possible or convenient - I forget what mission it is but I believe you have a mission that takes place during Operation Market Garden in which a Polish unit relieves a British one, and you play as the Polish in the second part of the mission. If I recall, they're wearing the same uniforms that they wore in the 1939 missions and using Soviet weapons.

A Polish unit fighting in the Netherlands in 1944 would've been part of the Polish Army in the West, using British Commonwealth uniforms and equipment more or less. These are the same Polish soldiers shown in the Call of Duty 3 Hill 262 Mont Ormel mission, which has them in proper uniforms. I noticed you were using some CoD 3 assets already for the mod and thought I'd bring it to your attention if it's not something that was already planned. Giving them the CoD 3 uniforms and British weapons like the Lee Enfield and Bren gun would make the mission much more historically accurate.

The mod is no longer in active development. The final version came out in 2015. Personally kind of wish a new team would pick this up and fix it up as it's not exactly complete and it's really an amazing mod. Probably unlikely though.

This mod is incredible. Definitely highly recommend it. It's a shame what I'm hearing about the Confederate campaign, I actually got a bit into one without it crashing, but I'm not at turn 25 yet so I'd take the word of the people leaving comments. Also a shame naval battles don't appear to have ever been finished (CTD every time I try them, I assume they just don't work on this mod since the custom sea battles are marked WIP in the menu, I could be wrong though). Other little minor issues I have are the "missing string" dialogue in diplomacy, the fact that the British, French, Mexican, etc troops all say "Battalion forward!" in American English. Troops sometimes seem to have a hard time path finding in the custom maps.

Overall though, other than the CTDs I haven't encountered, these are nitpicks at best. It would be nice if this mod could be finished (though I know the original team has scattered and it's nigh impossible), but what's here is honestly incredible, perhaps the best total conversion mod for Empire Total War. I hold Darthmod in slightly higher regard as there's more content and it's more stable, but DM is also not really so much total conversion as what vanilla should have been. This is something entirely different. The beautifully modeled historic generals, the dozens upon dozens and dozens of custom units, each brimming with detail, the custom maps and historical battlefields, the sound of muskets and rifles firing, shells cracking and sizzling, men shouting commands and battle cries, the set up of the menu interface and unit cards, the campaign map. Hats off to the team that put this gem together. You've done something incredible. If I could review this I'd give it a 10/10, even in its sadly unstable, somewhat unfinished state. Anyone bored with vanilla Empire and/or it's 18th century mods, and definitely any lover of Civil War history, should give this a try.

But does it actually launch still? And would you say that the crashes ruin the mod? I'm really interested in this but I generally have Empire with Darthmod and it's not worth the trouble of uninstalling Darthmod, uninstalling Empire, reinstalling it and installing this mod only to find it doesn't even work at all and I end up having to go through the same process to remove this and get Darthmod back.

Update: so the files being messed up was my fault, on account of me not properly uninstalling ACW. Got rid of the whole thing and am reinstalling Empire now, hopefully I didn't do any permanent damage.

This mod is really something else though, honestly, I'd say it rivals the quality of The Great War for Napoleon in terms of sheer attention to detail, unit variety, research done. But for all that, it's probably something like 40-60% complete, and that's just not enough for it to be recommendable. It's missing a lot of core features and the lack of polish can really break it for some people, myself included. If you have Warpath for Empire and you don't get trainwrecked by bugs that make the campaign unplayable, then it might be fun for a while, but otherwise, what's there isn't all that fun to play around with for more than a few days. It's sad that no one's working on the mod, and I hope someday someone will come back to it and finish it to its true potential. Doubtful given Empire's age and the amount of effort it would take, but stranger things have happened.

This mod has amazing potential. What's completed is absolutely excellent, so much time and care went into it that I can't ignore it. That said, it's unfinished and the mod team has abandoned it... and it's not finished enough.

No naval battles, no scenario battles, big lack of polish through most parts of the game on account of it being unfinished (such as no names or pictures for government ministers, certain skins being unfinished and using immersion breaking 18th Century vanilla Empire placeholders, etc), and a myriad of bugs ranging from annoying to game breaking.

Another fun issue I had with the mod was that when I decided to uninstall it, it told me that the main ACW file needed permission from the administrator to delete it. I am the administrator, so I was pretty confused. After going through several online tutorials and hours of research to try to get rid of it through changing permissions around, and failing, I ended up having to delete the ACW folder via safe mode. I'm pretty sure that's screwed up something with my ETW's file integrity, because despite Steam telling me all the files are accounted for and uncorrupted, and after an uninstall and reinstall, I can't get the game to launch, so... yeah.

What's there deserves praise, but not much IS there, it's not worth the trouble of getting it installed, and not worth the risk. My Empire files might be permanently screwed. Uninstalling and reinstalling again to see if that will fix it. In short, if someone decides to go back to this mod and finish it someday it might be great, but as of right now, stay away. It's a shame it was abandoned... it was on track to being one of the greatest ETW mods.

Wiesenaue might have been a little too far east for the Americans or British to have been present in any battle that might have taken place there. Out of curiosity I pulled up a map of the final positions of the Allied armies, and it seems that that there might have been one American and one British army in the area, but I can't see exactly where Wiesenaue was in relation to them.

Here's a link to it, could be useful to you:
En.wikipedia.org

It might be more accurate to make the enemies Russians though. Whichever way you choose to go, the map looks fantastic so far, good luck and I hope to play when it's released!

I love what I've been able to play of this mod but so far three major errors have pretty much made it unplayable at the moment.
*1. The game crashes during the black and white "military channel" cutscenes before each campaign. Not a huge deal but unless I'm pounding the left mouse button as fast as I can before those cutscenes start so I can skip them, those missions with the cutscenes are not playable for me.

*2.The game crashes on the "victory" menu after completing a mission when I click continue or main menu.

3.The mission select screen was blank, I fixed it with the Developer 1 workaround WCP mentioned, but now I'm getting run time errors on every mission. I tried turning the logfile off in the console as was mentioned here earlier, but it was already set to 0 and didn't work.

*By crash, I mean the game freezes up and stops responding. I've walked away from my PC and given it half an hour to unfreeze before coming back and using the task manager to close the program. I'm fairly certain that it won't unfreeze, so I consider it to have crashed.

Any help would be appreciated, and in the meantime I'll try reinstalling both CoD 2 and B2F. Also, it might be worth mentioning that I'm using the german language add on with the mod that you guys developed. I doubt that's causing problems, but I'll mention it just in case.

I'm getting problem number 1 as well, I'll try to take a screenshot of it at some point. I don't have any mods installed, in fact, I had so many mods installed that I deleted all of CoD 2's files and did a clean reinstall before downloading Back2Fronts.

I'm also having an issue with the game freezing up and not responding every time I click the continue mission button after finishing a mission, forcing me to ctrl alt delete out of the game (I've waited ten plus minutes, it doesn't unfreeze). This, coupled with the blank mission select screen, has basically made the mod unplayable for me at the moment, hoping there's a solution.

Does this mod significantly decrease performance on lower end PC's? I can run the vanilla game ok at mid to low settings, and can run the Darthmod versions of Napoleon and Empire perfectly at mid to high settings.
