Wolfenstein - Blade of Agony

Mod review

Sure, the mod is an eye-candy work but four missions in & the mod fell flat on its face.

- Performance is awful. No mater what I've changed in the graphics options, the results were all the same.

- Hit-detection won't work consistently. The bullets fly straight though enemies, missing the shots most of the time.

- Poor enemy placement & from time to time a spam full of Nazi soldiers in a nonsensical way. (CoD1 & Medal of Honor Allied Assault never had that & those games were challenging in their own way)
Sharks rush towards you at an unnatural speed, taking cheap damage in the process.
One of the bosses don't react to you, despite standing near his face unless you shoot him or press the switch.
While climbing to the top of the ladder, two or three Nazi soldiers immediately fired at me with no way to prevent that damage. Tried to fire back & a mysterious invisible wall appeared blocking all my shots. Very odd.

- Some out of place invisible walls.

- Hidden machine guns that harass you every time they get a chance with no way to counter them, discouraging player from exploring the areas for secrets & other optional stuff.

- Stamina is a joke.

- 'Operation Chastise' is basically 'The Eder Dam' mission from Call of Duty 1 without placing explosives on the dam's generators. Only AA guns are needed to be taken down.

- Safe cracking is vaguely explained & it crashed the mod once for me.

=======

The mod successfully deceived me with its looks & I'm unhappy about that. A shame but I have to tell people to stay away from this under-cooked & overhyped product.
This was a possible case of shifting the focus on the advertisement of the mod for increasing the hype via the looks rather than polishing the gameplay for a nice & fun challenge.

What an unpolished mess.

2 points for the WW2 aesthetics in gzdoom engine, I guess.

They Hunger

Mod review

Not bad.

Though, save minigun ammo for the last boss because without it, the fight will last way too long.

Cry of Fear

Game review

Decent. Had some nice spooks & there were some fun puzzles.

Issues:

- the feedback when you shoot the monster is barely noticeable
- some cheap hits i received
- enemies sometimes move through solid objects or walls
- got the good ending on my first playthrough, so the incentive to get back & replay the game is gone
- frequent crashes, mostly during load times

Not bad but needs polishing.

Half-Life Invasion

Mod review

Ok mod. I can see the innovative parts of the gameplay for Half Life & it does a good job for the most part.

Issues are as follows:
- feels unpolished
- tank aiming feels off
- part where you continuously fall is lame & boring
- buggy
- map design is ok
- the 9 button puzzle is tedious
- bad music & it's very loud, possibly no way to turn down the volume

Could've been better.

Afraid of Monsters DC

Mod review

Had an absolute blast playing this mod. One of the best Half Life mods out there.

Amazing atmosphere that sends chills down my spine even after beating it four times to get a good ending.

Doom 64 for Doom II

Mod review

DooM 64 levels recreated in DooM 2 with some interesting tweaks & additional things. No complaints.

Great job to the team.

Doom II

Game review

Map is alright. The dark area with specters & mancubi with maze was the weakest part.
I kept getting stuck, I couldn't see anything, trying to rocket mancubi would result getting splash damage due to auto-aim at specters. It was frustrating & a dumb gimmick.

Part with 4 cyberdemons had ammo starvation. Circle & super shotgun them which is a tedious task.

There are ridiculous amount of pinkies on this map. It gets boring to fight them.

I played it on UV.

Transmissions - Element 120

Mod review

Fun concept but quite easy & extremely short. Way too short even for mod standards.

Entropy : Zero

Mod review

Insanely good mod but needs difficulty balancing.
I don't mind respawning enemies but fast headcrabs were a bit too much at the valve puzzle as they block your movement which was super annoying.

DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum

Mod review

Besides main protagonist's horrid voice acting, it feels like an official expansion to the original.

It's that good.

Oh and go and download the soundtrack. It's terrific!
