Audio production guy, musician, and developer of strategy games. Also a full-time database engineer and coding geek in denial. Computers have a reluctant corner of my life, as I very much enjoy being outside and working with my hands. As a kid, my brothers and I loved networking multiplayer strategy games like Age Of Empires and Command & Conquer. My wife's family introduced me to the first mod I would ever play: "CannisRules" for Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge. I was shocked at how so many subtle changes could drastically improve an old favorite. After conquering that mod, I recalled a long-forgotten dream about hacking and improving my favorite PC games someday. I didn't want to learn more computer code, but... Fast forward over 3 years, and the mod I began simply to tweak Red Alert 2 has been re-written several times on its journey to becoming "Nod's Revenge". I'm excited to contribute to the conversation here on MDB.

Can you play normal Yuri using your CD? If not, then "Error Finding Game" could mean that your installation is damaged. XCC Mod Launcher uses the registry to find YR and extract the actual mod into the game (I believe the exact path preferred is "C/Westwood/RA2". A lot of new Windows OSs and newer versions of the game CD may install in your "Program Files" instead of the classic file path seen above.

Check if your YR CD allows you to play the game, if not, reinstall the whole game and move/rename any game folders created to match the folder path above.

Hope it works out for ya!

I used to see that error, too...on windows 7. I had to move my Westwood folder (which has my RA2 folder) under my "c/" drive instead of my "Program files" folder. The mod excecutable file needs that file path to place the temporary game files.

I'd need some more details to help you get it up and running. If you open a free moddb profile, you could private message me with your system data and we might be able to figure it out.

Bucknife @ Return of the C&C dinosaurs?

Hopefully with 0.87! We're almost ready to put out 0.86 with some pretty huge balance and AI improvements and a few new units. If some map-makers would like to create some "funpark/JP" style maps, that would be a great way to re-introduce the dinosaurs. I also have a couple ideas on how players could unlock certain dinosaurs during regular multiplay.

Bucknife @ Official EA Red Alert2 and Yuri's Revenge Patches

Nope! I think some of the newer packages that include RA2/YR have the updates with the initial install. Generally, the only people who need these patches are the ones using the old, original CD installs.

You're right. The aggressive auto-targeting from both the enemy units and your own units was a test we were running for early Beta stuff. I can't recall if the current v.0.85 still has that feature, but the in-progress v.0.86 has many issues like that one resolved and running very well.

Rock-On!

Bucknife @ Official EA Red Alert2 and Yuri's Revenge Patches

Lots of blogs have different fixes for different versions of Windows, system types (32bit Vs. 64bit), and issues depending on whether you are using a laptop or desktop. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as simple as a "1 or 2 things fix all" solution, just because of all the variations of issues between different systems.

In your case I wouldn't worry about gamemd.exe for now...it may have a different name for your version (otherwise, your download may be incomplete and you may have to re-install yuri's revenge...but try the stuff below before that).

Also, don't worry about the ".ini" files you can't find... the game auto-creates those AFTER you have run the game the first time, so those fixes are specifically for lag-reduction and resolution after you've already got the game to turn on.

But first, change each and every ".exe" (Application-type) in your Red Alert 2 directory (Yuri stuff should automatically be in there as well) to run in compatibility mode and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)", then tick the run as administrator box and apply. If you are running a widescreen/laptop, it is advisable to set your screen resolution to 800/600 or as close as you can just to help the game open the first time. You can then adjust the ".ini" resolutions to your preferred sizes later.

See if RA2 runs in this case, then see if yuri can run after that. If the first runs fine but yuri does not, you may need to simply uninstall the game and try again.

Sorry you're having a rough time...but keep trying and you'll get it eventually!

The EA patches do work with TFD versionm but the patches were created BEFORE Win8/8.1 came out and were only meant to fix gameplay bugs and balancing issues.

After Win8 came out, RA2 basically broke. It has usually been the fans who figure out how to keep things going.

Here is the link to a tech blog that helped me.
Itekblog.com

In addition to the points the blog mentions, I would also make sure you move your "Westwood/RA2" folders or whatever folders contain your Red Alert 2/Yuri files OUT of the "Program Folders" (the usual install location for Win Vista +) and place it (the RA2 folder) directly under your "C: Drive" (the usual install location for RA2 with WinXP).

Also, I would skip the blog's third recommendation of installing the Npatch, since that can complicate the play of some mods should you use any in the future.

Right. No Ares for NR at the moment. I'm not sure if having any other mod's Ares stuff in the RA2 folder would hinder playing this mod.

By "normal launcher" I mean the non-Origin version of the mod, which comes with the easy XCC launcher executable. On Windows 7, 64bit or 32bit, you do probably need to go into the properties of the Nod's Revenge launcher and run in compatibility for WinXP SrvcPack 3. Let us know if that works.

It's difficult to help when we don't know details...
-Which version of Windows are you trying to play on?
-Can you launch and play normal Yuri just fine?
-Are you using the normal "Launcher" version of Nod's Revenge, or are you using the "Manual" ( Origin Compatible) version?
-Did the computer "freeze" after trying to start the mod through the launcher? (See readme, "Special Note for XP users" section.

For now, yes, the country change is intentional. Pacific Forces include American and Korean regions on the new map, so it was just easier for us to combine them in game for now. We figured 4V4, plus the oddball "Yuri" faction (Black Hand) was close enough to normal YR for our taste.
I noticed that superweapon issue as well! We've got a fix that will be in the next Beta update hopefully by the end of November.
Thanks for playing!

Sure! NR generally runs very well, but this fix has helped tons of Window 10 users and others with slower systems: Youtube.com

Hope it helps. We'll see if we can add this fix directly to the mod so people don't have to.

Playing these older titles can be troublesome in Origin. It may be simply a resolution error (the game wants to launch in a smaller resolution than what your screen is currently set to). First, set your screen res to 800 by 600 (or as close as your monitor will allow), then launch any of the C&c games. After the game starts, set in in-game resolution to what your previous and preferred larger resolution used to be. Then you can quit the game and set your desktop resolution back to your older larger setting. This might fix that error for all the games. The EA help page has tons of help for ORIGIN users. Sounds like one or combinations of three things: 1. You may be using the "Origin" downloaded version of RA2 (in this case, make sure normal Ra2/YR opens fine and wait to see a "Compatible with ORIGIN" version of NodsRevenge very soon.
2. You may be playing on Win8 or higher, in which case also make sure you can play normal Ra2/YR and check online for fixes.
3. You have 1 or more other mods still plugged in to the game that are looking for their files to launch the game but can't find them. If this might be true, check the help docs if each of those mods to see if they unplug after play or if they require you to manually move files around to play regular Ra2/YR after you quit their mod.

Thanks, -Bucknife
