TBH I don't know. I would like to add custom cities for sieges, a new faction, some new mini-factions and unleash the Papacy forces via scripting mid game... Also, there have been some very interesting developments in med2 modding that could be implemented. HOWEVER. All of this would take time I am currently busy doing things that make money out of time so perhaps in the future but no dates.

There are no mercs at start, they begin to appear for recruitment after a number of turns. Some are very rare

They would need to be added in as a entire new faction. This is possible as there is space for them (Thera: Redux has room for a couple more within the hardcoded limits of the engine). You cannot however, simply ''activate'' them. It would take modding.

''it's like the AI is reluctant to attack you if you have a big imposing army garrisoned in a city/castle city''

- Yes, this is what it is. The AI scripting is doing what it is supposed to here.

As to ''difficulty'' settings:
''Very hard'' battle setting just gives the AI absurd morale bonuses, making every unit fight like leonidas which makes all the differences in stats between the various grades of units a lot less meaningful and highly unrealistic feeling.

Very hard campaign settings gives the AI factions massive bonuses in campaign. The AI already has various starting advantages scripted in by me to ensure the AI factions can thrive. Do not use this setting.

I recommended the ''middle'' setting because these are the settings I configured and tested with optimal results on both battle and campaign.

Thera: Redux is minimally scripted, just like the old original version.

One of the scripts I added is intended to reduce the MED2 issue of successful factions suddenly collapsing and going rebel. This issue is believed to caused by the faction leader and heir dieing in the same battle or in the same round or a simple kill off of all faction members . The script spawns a new faction member if the faction is down to 3 or less members (not counting non member Generals), it is of course possible that a faction could have all of its members killed before the script kicks in next turn.

As to enemy armies grouping up but not attacking, this can happen due to the AI deciding the attack is highly unfavourable. I upped the devastation income hit enemy armies cause whilst in player land to make their presence more felt and make attacking them a better option than camping in a city and ignoring them.

The mod is limited by the old engine of course, take this into account. If the enemy is en mass in your borders, refusing to attack you in a city/castle, attack them in a field battle or don't and face leaving one of your large armies bottled up in your settlement.

Shouldn't be glitchy at all. Never heard of this before. Try changing your resolution in the cfg file, could be a super new monitor thing

There are loads of them. Mercs begin to appear after a number of turns, the pools populate as the game goes, rarer mercs take longer to appear, more common appear much more quickly and in greater numbers.

HA! That's a plant from the original vanilla mod. But yea, idea is you don't play as them.

Been thinking of making them playable though, with some special mechanics.

Been doing other things as of late, but still plan on a nice update.

Some new units, some new scripts, unleashing the Inquisition (for late game AI), adding some more interesting Minor factions, additional recruitment of Area troops upon conquest, spicing up the Holy Lands continent and other things...

As to when, I have no idea. But it shall be done.

If you go to TWcenter, there are guides to animation/skeleton modding that explain it all. It seems complicated, but it makes sense if you follow them. You'll need a tool first, then you unpack the pack and skeletons. Here is a guide and dl link for a unpacker Tool. Twcenter.net

There are already a bunch of new portraits added on last release. You would have to manually add what you want, simply dropping the SS version in will create a lot of weird and unwanted mixups.

Either the settings aren't saving or your gfx card settings are overwriting it or its some weird resolution thing.

I cannot say without seeing it, but know that it works for everyone else so it's something on your end.
