An archive of the fixed model pack from Planet Half-Life. Blue Shift Unlocked under Xash3D FWGS benefits from having these.
Planet Half-Life presents:
HALF-LIFE HIGH DEFINITION PACK (FIXED)
for Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift: Unlocked
**********************************************************************************
Pack contents created by Valve and Gearbox Software
Pack compiled by Alexander "your evil twin" Van Wingerden-Cross
**********************************************************************************
The Half-Life High Definition Pack released by Valve on Steam is mod and customisation unfriendly; the models are missing animations used in many single-player mods (resulting in scripted sequences failing, sections of a mod becoming impossible to complete or even crashes). Furthermore it isn't possible to use any custom models while the Steam HD pack is installed as the high definition models in the GCF file will override them.
This pack includes the fixed HD content for Half-Life, as well as the HD content for Opposing Force and Blue Shift. This will allow you to have High Definition goodness in all your Half-Life mods, and use custom models of your own choosing as well.
High Definition models are essential for playing the Steam version of Blue Shift, as if you try to play with standard 'low definition' models then when you ride on an elevator with some scientists they will recieve damage and die, resulting in game over. (Note that you will have to install the mod Blue Shift: Unlocked - see details below.)
**********************************************************************************
Features:
*High Definition models for Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift
*Half-Life models are fixed versions from the Blue Shift 1.0.0.1 Update patch. The GCF version of the HD pack released on Steam by Valve uses the original unpatched models, and these are incompatible with some mods.
*Better looking G-Man! The G-Man (gman.mdl) included in 1.0.0.1 is a far better looking G-Man than the original high definition pack's gman. and in fact he resembles the HL2 G-Man to a certain extent.
*Does not prevent the use of custom models, unlike the Steam GCF version of the HD pack which overrides anything in the game directory.
*Using High Definition models prevents the "killer elevator" bug in Blue Shift. Yay!

Installation:
Note: These instructions assumes that you have the Steam versions of Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift installed. If you have not installed one of these games, then if you follow these instructions then high definition content will still be installed in an appropriate folder, and if you ever choose to install the game in the future then the HD content will already be in the right place, ready and waiting!
1) If you have installed the Steam version of the HD pack in the past, you will need to uninstall it so that it does not override the HD content that you are about to install. To uninstall, start up Steam and then while it is running use this link in your internet browser:
Removeaddon
If you wish you can then delete the half-life high definition pack gcf file, which you'll find in your steam username directory, as you'll never need it again.
2) For some reason Blue Shift ignores custom content, so to play Blue Shift with High Definition content without using Steam's GCF HD pack you will need to install the Half-Life Improvement Team's "Blue Shift: Unlocked" which turns Blue Shift into a Half-Life mod that you can customise, as well as adding a number of features that were in the original retail version of Blue Shift but not the Steam version. Blue Shift unlocked download page:
Hl-improvement.com or Fileplanet.com
3) When the Blue Shift: Unlocked installer asks you whether you would like to use High Definition content, click on 'Default', as you are about to install new fixed High Definition content rather than the Steam version.
4) Find your Steam username directory. It should have folders inside it called half-life, opposing force, etc. For many people this folder will be located at "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[username]", where [username] is your own Steam username and is different on everyone else's computer. Some installations of Steam are in a Valve folder, in which case the directory structure would be "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[username]".
5) Extract the half-life and opposing force folders from this zip file into the directory that you just found, keeping the directory strucutre intact. If done correctly, all the Opposing Force files should automatically go into the opposing force\gearbox folder, all the Half-Life content should automatically go into the half-life\valve folder, and all the blue shift content should automatically go into the half-life\bshift_unlocked folder.
Start a game of Half-Life, Opposing Force or Blue Shift: Unlocked and you should quickly notice the improved characters, monsters and weapons. They will also appear in all Half-Life single-player mods, though they will not override any custom models that come with the mod.
Enjoy!

Known bug:
While most of the high definition models have had their missing animations returned to them, the zombie animations are not fixed. The update for the High Definition pack that was a part of the Blue Shift 1.0.0.1 patch did not include a replacement zombie. There are some animations for eating and then standing up that are not used in normal Half-Life but are used in some mods. If this scripted sequence occurs in one of these mods you'll see the zombie in a bizarre pose that looks like he is dancing but frozen in place. You should be able to 'unfreeze' the zombie by shooting at it. This affects very few mods (unlike the problems in the Steam HD pack, which caused problems in most mods!) and should not result in crashes or prevent you from continuing the game.
