(72 votes)Nice idea, badly done.
(53 votes)What were they thinking?
(115 votes)It's bloody awful!
(63 votes)Never tried it.
(57 votes)Eh?
YAY my vote WAS FIRST :D
Steam sucks! 1: the green/gray is a bad color! 2: It takes forever (dispite the fact that i have a 800kb cable modem) to connect to/make a lousy server! And 3: i can't connect to half the servers i find! It gives me the (could not find steam id ticket blah blah blah) or sumthing like that! So the WON sytem is faster, doesn't disconnect you so much, and is just plain better!
I never tired out Steam, yet. And probability I won't, just because I gotta download 700MB to play all the modification for HL.
In two words: STEAM SUXX!!
i dont like it because im good just finding servers the old way
(actually i dont know how to use it :D)
I try it when HL 2 comes out. . .so basically never
whats the point in having a game that supports 800mhz processors if the online aspect requires a recomended minimum 512kb adsl connection
trying to cator for gamers with crappy pcs and speedy connections, yeh great, 512kb adsl on a 800mhz prolly loads web pages quicker than the bloody pc can display it ffs
No chance... Steam sux.
The old HL connection style is great, no complaints about... why the **** do game companies always have to change something that was already great into something horrible ????????
The won system was GREAT!!!! Luckly i have a really fast cable modem! But sadly i have a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 64 PRO!!! It'll run OK on hl2 but i still want better! I want a ATI RADEON 9600 XT! I need $108 more for my card! I'll call my cousin to install it for me IF i get it!
I'm with you... I need a 9600 too... I NEED MONEY!!!! ... that happens if you study... poor students... ^_^
this may seem poor, but would someone care to explain the purpose of steam, what valve is trying to achieve with it and all that to me... i am yet to use it, and never really bothered seeking to much information about it!
my opinion presently however, is game developers should stick to making games and thats IT!
is valves version of gamespy and for some its sweet and fast and some its slow and crapy. me I had cache problems with it. I found servers fine. The budy system worked. The media for hl2 took forever. The fact it will allow me to download a game on the fly seems like the nice idea but again speed is gonna be the key factor.
now only if it had some form of bit tornet download/upload it might eb better
amckern
Am i the only one here who actually likes steam? I think its awesome, it works wonderful for me.
Looks like you are one of the only lucky persons it works somehow...
Is the same with nhl2004... crashes on a lot of systems and is crap concerning stability and compatibility but some people are lucky it works.
i voted it's bloody awful
Eh?
looking at a turd is heaven compared to steam!!
well erm it might be great now.... we stopped playing completely:
Cam-direct.co.uk
Big words... but true words...
I'll still keep a neutral position towards HL2 although I doubt more and more that it will stand a chance against good old Half-Life.
The fun thing with steam IMO is the fact that you need an internet connection _JUST_ to play a single player game with Steam. Even a simple LAN game requires all PCs to be connected to the 'net. To me that just seems stupid.
i think some of you miss the point of steam, if and when isp's lower the cost of having broadband and asdl and so on, so that lots of people can have it, as well as making it more coomon in ... well every where, then somting like steam will be very good. because from what i've read about it it cut's downloads most of the game to your drive, then when you use it it will constantly keep updating the info on your drive and in the games so that it can make sure none of the data is wrong, it will also do auto updates and WILL cut down if not get rid of cheaters as it checks if the data is all right.
given it isn't completely bug free and one of a kind right a lot of work has to be done. don't slag off a new idea before they finish it.
Hey... I HAVE broadband and Steam sux, sux, sux, .... i repeat myself I know.
i have a really fast cable modem and it takes FOREVER to connect to/create a server, on games like dod and cs...third party games (suck as rocker crowbar 2) take a short time to connect to/make a server! EATING DRAGON poo is (again) heaven compared to steam! it's the opposite with WON
i ment such not suck, rocket nor rocker...lol
DANG! i wish i could edit my own posts!GRRRRRRR
EATING DRAGON??
I hope this was not against me,
no it wasn't LOL!!!! :D :D :D :D
What's it anyways?
he said eating dragon poo lol :D
Now I understand... sorry for beeing so damn slow. I just didn't catch up the sentence reading it. Yeah... english is still not my mother tongue...

Valve way ready somehow... but leaking source code in that dimension can retard a project greatly...
Another reason why Steam sux! 210MB!!!!! Why should somebody get 210 ******* MB to get crap, crap and more crap. The full crap is even 700 MB!!!!!!!!!!
That's just **** in my eyes... brutal ****... and that's how it works.
And that's the fundamental defect. At the beginning I thought it was 700 KB, when I download it from FilePlanet, It shows exactly 700 MB!!! Fu*k, I almost have a freakin' heart attack!!
And shall consume 1GB of HD space... of damn valuable HD space... I can't believe this crap!
i have a memory capacity of 80.00 gb's! i can hold more crap than the worlds largest sewer sytem! ( modified the water boy saying...) "steammmm sux...it really really sucks!" hehe...I LOVE ADAM SANDLER MOVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! hehe lol
well I CAN't hold that much....but my comp can!
Steam is a mixture. On one side it's a gaming client application doing the same as dying WON. On the other hand it's a stream application allowing the game to update itself and to download mods and other ******* stuff from a server.
BUT!
Now thingt a little bit you stream lovers out there. What happens if a new HL patch comes out and perhaps another CS patch too (is connected often I heard). Although steam has a few servers around the globe whenever somebody fires up hl, steam goes to update himself without asking. Ok... a 56k user has to download suddenly 110 MB without beeing asked. If he does not do it he can't play because whenever he runs hl the **** starts over again. What if you have good line... tousands of people sttart sucking the same ******* file from the same server at the same time. The servers will collapse... no chance... Steam is not able to handle server and bandwidth resources correctly. You can also not select what you update, it just does.
What Sierra has done there is trying to put their useless update tools (sierra tools) to new dimensions making an own resource and bandwidth eating reshog out of it. I'm sorry... there is NO good point on Steam at all. In fact it will most likely be the reason why I gonna cease online gaming at all with steam only games because this is more worse than M$... I forgot... M$ has it's ******* fingers in HL2... yeah... now I don't wonder why this crap turned out to be such a super crap.
End of ranting... ^_^
soz... i missed the post... first few paragraphes are worthless though...
i heard that you don't need steam to run hl2 single player! :D
Steam is a good idea but the program itself sucks ***
