Those that participated in the Mod of the Year Awards would have noticed one of the sponsors was the Art Institute Online who aim to give game / mod developers the grounding and knowledge they need to launch a career in the gaming industry. For those interested, a press release they put out today caught my attention so I thought I would share it now.
The Art Institute Online has opened a student campus in Second Life, a virtual online community, which will be the forum for a new Business Communications course. The faculty, realizing the potential for a rewarding learning experience, credits student interest in Second Life as the source for the course’s development. To be honest I am not sure what to make of this? A virtual course held in a virtual world? Nether the less it is interesting to see where they are taking this. The full press release can be found here.
rotfl wtf.
To be honest that was my immediate reaction. I think online courses are great, but I am still dubious about second life. Still it allows you to do some fairly creative things so it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
i doubt that it'll be sucsessful, but hell knows ;P
people play second life to have fun, not to study. it misses like the whole point of playing computer games, you sit at your computer to relax (unless your work is connected with computers, but that's a different story)
*duh* ... "Ballons 3D" on SmallTalk has the same ability, and that even without being commercial. Not sure what to think of this. Somewhere I smell some catches reading that page. No idea what sounds "strange" on all this :/
Cool idea; I doubt they'd be pursuing it if it didn't have some potential, but it might just be a gimmick too. We'll see, I guess
I wonder if there's a "no giant penises" policy in classrooms...
If you want an art degree, either inscribe in university and work for five years to get your degree, or buy one from the University in Umpaloompa, situated on the Island of Newland. Ineresting concept? - My ***!
This might be the answer I've been looking for! I hope this becomes successful seriously...
Well this is... original to say the least.
I doubt a possible employer will take you very serious if you say you got your degree in Second Life though. :/
this is as dumb as winning fictional diplomas from radio stations
I remember hearing awhile back about some guy that uses Second life as a blueprint for his fuel station to show new employees how it's setup.
I rather be home behind my computer WITHOUT being seen.. even if it's a 3d version of me.
BUT.. on the other hand it would be funny to wear something extremely distracting.
I wonder if there is a dress code? lol
