It's a bit rougher around the edges than we had hoped and a few bugs couldn't be squished in time. And sadly, there is no Mac support at this time. However, making the game open source & releasing this version allows for new beginnings. If you happen to have Mac Crossover, I'm told that works fine.
We'll be posting mirrors HERE as they become available. I'll also be listing the known game servers in the Telegraph section of the forum. For you coders out there, the source can be found HERE.
We're hoping to use the IoQ3 engine in the near future, so please keep that in mind before posting in the forum. Linux users should see this topic. A lot of folks are chatting in our irc channel if you'd like to join us!

I'll try using crossover, a mac version would be nice to see eventually though.
We tried hard to get a mac version out, but there were to many problems and not enough time. We delayed the project enough as it was o_0 A mac patch is definitely in the works.
looking forward to!
Sweet never seen this on moddb before got to check it out :D.
nice, downloading as soon as this is posted

That's the Quake 3 engine?
Will wonders never cease.
Great game, funny and adictive xD.
I only had trouble trying to play with a friend using hamachi, the game sees to have normal ping in the gamelist, but ingame the ping grow up fast to an insane level... If someone have the same trouble with it and know any way to solve it, it whould be very appreciated. I thinked using internet server, but the game don't have that option in the main menu, and I'm not used to the Q3 Console, so I don't know if there is a way to do it manually with the console. I searched in the forums and I didn't finded a problem like this, so I thinked it was a good idea post it, but maybe this isn't the good place for it.
I will post this thing there too, sooner or later, but if someone can answer me, I whould be very pleased.
Thanks, XenonFORT.
And that seems to look like some ambitious project right here, seems pretty fun. I need to try it for sure. Nice work guys!
I've got the original Version of this as a Q3 modifaction for some months now, and it was always fun to play.
The old Version is called "Westernq3", and is an ICI (Iron claw interactive) production. You have already written that down on your group page and so on, so this info was for everyone who didn't already read it.
I watched your screens and what do I see? Some new maps with the same old weapons as a standalone project.
Making a standalone off something you haven't made yourself is a ripoff for me, really. As a matter of fact, I still haven't played your version, but I don't believe you have changed so many things.
I'm sorry if my accusations are wrong, for that I don't know what you actually made. I visited your site, watched the videos and pictures and I have to say that the weapons seemed to be still the same, but you seemed to at least have added some maps. Oh, the new maps seem to be very good, and I'm impressed by what you did. I much liked the steamboat's effects for example. That gets us to the next point. You actually used effects like steam. That was only on a few occasions in the original. You most probably even added new music, for that I think the music in your videos is in your game, too. But all of this is just details. The botscripts were good in the original, even if the bots were sometimes stuck. I can't really say much about reload times and so on, except that they most probably didn't change too much. You could say at least 70% of the work was done by ICI, and that, my friends, is not something I would have wished for.
I believe you have worked hard for it, but I honestly dislike what you did here, and I will most probably not try it until I get proof of what you did yourself. Please don't get me wrong, I DON'T want to ruin your fun, for that WQ3 was already fun to play.
This surely IS fun to play, that's out of question, but you should have told people on this site that this is mainly an ICI production.
As far I know, they say in their mod profile that this is the standalone of that mod, so I think that answer your questions about who and what did the game.
Sorry, if I didn't understand well what you wanted to say there, but it I think it does.
See you in the game ^^.
ICI left the mod in the hands of ReD_NeCKersoN and torhu with full persmission to continue development. Read the manual and the cedits that follow:
The Smokin' Guns game started its life under the name of Western Quake³. It was originally developed by a team known as Iron Claw Interactive. They released WQ3 beta 2.0 in 2003, after which development all but ceased. In May 2005, development of Western Quake³ was taken over of by a bunch of cowboys calling themselves The Smokin' Guns with the blessings of the former team. With the release of the stand alone version in 2008, the game was renamed to Smokin' Guns, and the team to Smokin' Guns Productions. Throughout this manual, anytime you see the word "we" it should be noted that "we" refers to one or the other (or both) teams.
You're protesting something you know nothing about. In addition to what's included in the manual, the name Iron Claw Interactive is all over the Smokin' Guns intro & lengthy credits video.
After lying dormant for 2 years, ICI turned WQ3 over to us because they didn't want to see their mod DIE. The name of the game had to be changed because leaving the word QUAKE in the title posed copyright concerns with Id Software. If you'd bothered to download SG & try it you would have seen that Smokin' Guns 1.0 is a DRASTIC improvement over WQ3 beta 2.0 (which was released in 2003) & honors ICI in every way. If you're playing WQ3 Beta 2.2, as I suspect from your comments, who do you think released that? We've been at the helm since 2005 & this is our third release!
Trust me, the founder of ICI keeps an eye on the project & is very pleased. Just try the game friend! You can do so with a clear conscience. :)
But to avoid more misunderstandings, perhaps we should include some of this history in our summary & at our website.
Thanks! I enjoy this mod a lot :)
hi, ì have a question to the game: i am running this game on vista 64bit with service pack 1 but when i start a game there stands "couldn't config q3..." what can i do??
There seems to be a problem with 64bit OS:
Smokin-guns.net
You may want to meet up with Tequila
Moddb.com
How can i insert more bot??? More than ten???
When you are in game you can press Esc and use the "bots" menu to add more bots
yes but the max is ten???
you may have to set
/sv_maxclients
to something larger,
also try using
/addbot
command
when you are in game you should be able to add more bots using the UI menu though:
