As usual, there is an award given to a particular mod every Monday! This weeks award goes to Pirates Vikings and Knights II for their complete and utter Originality with their mod and it's gameplay!

At first I was quite skeptical. Why should a team deathmatch Mod get an originality award?
Then I read over some of the innovative (for a Mod, that is) inclusions like the weapon system and the three teams. But the scenarios are fairly basic 3-teamers, nothing that hasn't been done before. The 3 team scenarios are basically Team Fortress style (hunted, CTF, etc.) and similar but only with a third team added in and given a base. The teams have similar skills and weaponry to balance eachother and the maps where the teams have different objective (attack/defend) only have two teams playing. So I have to ask, what makes this Mod special?
It seems like not much has changed in the gameplay department since its HL predecessor, so why the award now? Is it because you didn't get round to giving it to PVK? Since this is effectively a port I don't see that it's any more original than its little (and arguably far more innovative) brother.
I'd say this award should be given to PVK (and naturally a link in the text to its ported big brother), because PVK discovered the New World. All PVK II is doing is plotting the grid references!
I Disagree. Most (if not all) Sequels or whatever are better then the predecessor. But an originality award, look through the hundreads of HL2 mods, they are all incredibly similar, but there are the odd few that stick out and PVK2 is one of them.
Awarding obsolete mods.. awards is counter-productive for a website like MODDB anyway.
Can we all just move on to mod sequels?
You guys will never be happy with awards untill its your own mod getting it. Well, deal with it. We choose the awards based on what we think, don't like it? Well you can just deal with it, because it's not going ot change.
But Crispy, PVK Is not an active mod development wise anymore. It's been stopped in the water for years in beta stage as some of the old team moved onto life / game industry / work etc...

its origional as far as the idea goes, but its a sequal so is it still classed as origional
i mean, do we see them as seperate developments or as a continuation
if its seperate its not origional cos its been done before
but if its a continuation its not done before cos its classed as the same development

i dont agree with fork, its not the fact that ppls mods arent getting awards
its just your system of awarding them, you cant possibly have viewed every single mod on this site extensively enough to decide one is better then the other
that is what ppl feel let down by, the fact they dont seem to get a chance to prove themselves worthy of an award.... i think

OK Havok and Sikre pretty much answered my question. Fork, I'm not petty about not getting a Mod award. I mean, let's ask ourselves, does a 10% complete Mod with no media content deserve an originality award? I wouldn't accept an award if it was given because our Mod hasn't proved itself (yet).
Back on-topic, seeing as PVK is no longer in production, and could be considered dead as opposed to complete, I see no reason why PVK II shouldn't get the Originality Award. If you read my comments you'll see that I agreed that the PVK concept should get an award, but I was wondering why PVK II deserved it more than PVK, and now I know.
The PVK team deserve this award, and the ModDB team did a good job in giving it to them.

Yeh Fuzzy, I don't know whats going on but... We submitted our news on about the 14th to PHL but nothing so far. It kind of worries me. Maybe I'll try sending it again :(

PVKII won't just be PVK for Half-Life 2. The best way I can put it is that we're taking the original concept of PVK and starting from scratch with it. We've got different classes, game modes, etc. I'm working on a summarization of all this to post in our profile. For now, you can check out our site...
