Post news Report RSS Jailbreak: Meet T.K. Duck!

A quick post release round up, an introduction to T.K. Duck, ShackNews, a little about the future and a few images from the upcoming Jailbreak Map Pack II!

Posted by on

Meet T.K. Duck. He's become quite the legend since we released. Perhaps not entirely for the right reasons... You see, T.K. Duck, is rather adept at one thing. Killing. He's not your usual Duck... It seems that during testing, T.K (as he's been nicknamed) got a taste for murder. Not satisfied with simply killing members of the opposite team, he developed a knack for killing members of his own team too!

Ok, so it's a bug! One that slipped us by, but we found it so funny that people gave him a name, that we'll most likely keep his murderous impulses as part of the game... Besides it's hilarious whenever someone screams "DUUUUCK!" over the microphone!

Shacknews! Rock, Paper, Shotgun!

The news of our release has reached far and wide, with our trailer getting featured on the front page of GameTrailers.com and rising to become the Number 1 video for the day! Rock, Paper, Shotgun featured us with an article, and just twenty four hours ago ShackNews did a piece on us! An incredible few days!

Community Map Pack + Mapping Guide

Our community have already been busily working on new maps too, with around 10 nearly complete already and winging their way to a map pack near you! If you want to contribute, then grab the Jailbreak: Source 0.6 Mapping Pack. The 3.24mb ZIP file includes two VMFs taken from the mod (jb_abalos and db_arroyo), aswell as a 30 page PDF document and our FGD file. It should see you well on the way to mapping Jailbreak fun!

Post-Release Round up!

We've been blown away by the response to Jailbreak so far, it's been immense fun playing with everyone on the servers and we're incredibly pleased that the mod seems to be so stable (we were terrified of another infinite grenade bug!). There's not even been much griefing or cheating, but maybe that's because we implemented a wall hack perk!

We had a fantastic and hilarious IRC party, and released dead on time at 7:30pm UK time, with plenty of servers ready for the players thanks to Trinity Games, Nuclear Fallout, Dedifrag and SteamFriends!

Since then, the servers have been filling up every night and it's been so much fun seeing everybody getting to grips with the new gamemodes, Deathball and King of the Hill. It's fascinating to see all new tactics being used, one particularly effective method I witnessed was to go into Stealth armed with a Grenade Launcher, then drop into the sinkholes of db_bleach, popping up behind the enemy team seconds later and showering them with 'splodey bombs! Finally, we thought this video review of Jailbreak conducted by the WGR review group, was awesome!

The Future!

We've got more planned for Jailbreak: Source, from content packs to whole new releases, new features and patches, aswell as map packs from our community. We're working on a patch to fix a few of the issues found during the last few days (in particular Madesco, which is horribly broken). We're also going to making changes to the way Perks are purchased to provide a more balanced experience for struggling teams, aswell as a new way of getting points.

We also plan to put Mini-Deathball into the Jails... to entertain you Jailbreakers whilst you wait for the dreaded release timers to count down!

I'm definitely happy with the release. The game is a bit more newb friendly and firing granade or rocket launchers is definitely laggy but luckily I can still annihilate everyone else. I went 100 points 0 deaths the last time I played no problem. I approve. :)

My guess is T.K duck TK's because he's sad that he doesn't have an owner when he is created, since he can't kill in name of the person that died, he'll just kill EVERYONE in a BLIND RAGE OF FURY!

Mini-Deathball sounds interesting, looking forward to what that's gonna be!

I've downloaded this mod maybe 3 times (v0.6) and every time I get a message saying something like "Error: the source files are corrupted" blah blah blah. I don't know what to do and there seems to be no obvious fix. I've got most games on the source engine (and episode 2's source engine [sorry, sounds n00bish]), and version 0.4 worked fine (but I uninstalled it because I couldn't find a single person online. Ever.). Seems like a cool mod and I'm very interested but this annoying little error kind of throws a monkey wrench in the cogs of fun :/

Loving playing this, the duck is a great recurring character, you never know where he might turn up (:
