Okay here we go
This happens to be the first public release of Airbørn, a total conversion for Unreal Tournament 3. The initial version which we had to release due to the Make Something Unreal Contest deadline last week, had some bad issues here and there, therefore we decided to give that version a week of extra polish.
The game was planned to be console based Action Adventure, therefore using the shortcuts provided by us 1280x720 (small HD) and playing Airborn with a gamepad (Xbox 360 controller) is recommended. It does work in different resolutions but the game experience might change and the HUD might not work properly. It also does work with keyboard and mouse, but it lends itself to be enjoyed with controller.
This version of Airbørn is far from a finished game, it's more or less a visual techdemo with basic gameplay added. Now that we have that base done we can build upon and add more to it. This is Version 0.1b, we know that there still are issues, but if you have any suggestions, feedback etc. feel free to contact us or search for updates at www.airborn-game.com .

This is the first time i've ever seen a pogo stick used in a game since...ALEX THE KIDD!
Also the first time i've seen this mod and I must say that i'm impressed!
The trailer was really well done, it showed off what seemed like a variety of different things, and it was very vibrant and pleasant to watch, well done.
I can't get the demo however since I don't have ut3, lol. But I have been wanting to get it...I may just get it now i've seen this, hehe. Well done guys, I look forward to seeing more in the future :)

cant get it to work via steam i tried altering as stated in the shortcut properties but just keeps opening my ut3 normal screen :(
Where is your airborn folder located? Put it into your UT installation root. And is your ut updated to the latest version 2.1?

****, missing Unreal 3 to play this. It's great that you made it to a release. Steffen is a very talented 3d modelling artist. You can see a lot of his work in many commercial games out there today.
This mod alone makes me want to buy unreal tournament 3.

It's pretty good for a first public release. Though the hitboxes are still pretty bad for buildings and such.
Would it be possible for you all to add a few settings in the menu? Ideally things like Anti-Aliasing, mouse sensitivity, aspect ratio (have options for 16:10, 16:9 and 4:3), fullscreen/widescreen, etc. Simple things that shouldn't break the core game-play or cause graphical glitches.
1. what do you mean by bad? could you be a bit more specific?
2. if you tell me how to turn on antialiasing in UT3 :) as far as i'm concerned that is not possible
3. we might look into it but so far i don't really know how to do this, as there is no such thing as the unit pixel in unreal shaders, so we cannot just change the resolution as the outline is right now 1/1280 wide and 1/720 high, its all tweaked to that resolution as its the most common current console game res, same with the hud, we'll look if and how we can change that to different resolutions, but so far its all tweaked for that res.
1. There are times when your body goes through walls, glitches on floors (you go through them), or glitches through NPCs. So overall, it's bad hit detection. At least you fixed it from the MUSC release where you could fall through stairs and such.
2. I don't believe it's in UT3 either, but this game needs it badly. It's heavily aliased. Particular around the floating boat at the beginning. This is the only UT3 game/mod where I've been distracted due to the sheer amount of aliasing. So I'd ask around and see if you can hack it into the engine somehow. Or to at least find out how to reduce it.
3. True, consoles play at that resolution now, but roughly 50% of US households are still on 4:3 aspect ratio TV (Tube-sets -.-). So if this game did ever go retail or becomes a mod for the PS3 version of UT3, you cut out a ton of players. Regardless, I think for the sake of the mod you should provide the option to do this. I know a lot of gamers still on lower resolution monitors. Or perhaps they're like me with large monitors and they want to play fullscreen at native resolution (which can apparently cause graphical issues at the moment).
I'm wondering what you all have planned for this mod. You seem like you want it badly put on consoles, and yet the only UT3 console version that supports mods is the PS3 version. However, you use the 360 gamepad overlay. Are you wanting a company to buy this game and let you retail it on the 360 or something? Well, I suppose if you end up winning the $1,000,000 you could just do that yourself without needing a third-party company (aside from publishing).
1. Walking through Npcs can be fixed if you mean the soldiers they are currently no real AIs like the critters or the grandpa, you shouldn ot be able to walk through them. We'll test more for other glitches, if you have any specific areas (i think i know one up at the landing ramp for the jets, in front of the right hangar) , feel free to share them, we have a forum here for that :)
2. i agree i'd love to have AA but as far as i know its impossible, as for the opening shot, i think its more or less a thing of the camera , having it face a bit more from up or openening the shot in a different way will fix this particular part of the issue
3. you are right, we'll check how we can do this, the main focus for this demo was just a bit different, then making this available for the usual US Household, its a mod and a very early one, so more or less anyone who is going to download it, will be a so called "hardcore gamer"
As for the future plans, we will see where it will lead us, i don't think its going to be retail, but you'll never know, but if its going retail its definitely not this version, not that unpolished, not that few amount of content etc. after all its the first release and we had to release something for MSUC. I guess its more likely that we will do a more doable game on a smaller plattform, PSP, NDS, Iphone or soemthing like this, but really right now its a just for fun project we are working on in our freetime.
I don't know if creating a profile for UT3 in the control panel for your graphic card's drivers and forcing AA using that will affect Unreal Engine 3 mods as well. It will most definitely force AA in UT3 at least. But if I'm not mistaken, all mods run off the UT3.exe anyway so it SHOULD work.
However that's not a real solution either way.
Anyway, the mod looks brilliant. It's high time for an original classic adventure game to come out, and this really looks like it's headed that way. I've downloaded it and will try it out as soon as I can.

Oh dear god....I put this mod on watch quite awhile ago, just because of the description, but from watching the trailer my jaw dropped. This looks amazing. I'm SUPER intrigued! Downloading now, can't wait to share my impressions. And if its as fun as it looks then wow...art design alone, dont stop developing this mod. pwease? :D lol

I've got into the mod, but when I try to start a new game, the log comes up with 'missing cached shader map for material (x)' for many different materials.
Any help would be appreciated :).
thats totally normal, just wait it generates the shader caches, next time you start it will go way faster.. if you don't want to see the log remove the -log stuff out of the shortcut :)
Ah, thanks. My own impatience to see this thwarted me.
It's fantastic. Obviously the graphics are incredible, but the little things like the dandelion seeds floating around, Pino's idle animations and the hilarious tokachu animations when kicked all give it so much character. The voice acting of Grandpa was also great.
Polyphobia, I loved your game demo and I really enjoyed it. I just hope instead of tailoring to consoles you will tailor to both systems equally. Because in reality the PC community here is the most likely to play your game. Infact, I believe the console gamers playing your game are going to be a massive minority playing. Resolution dependent UI is an important thing to focus on considering so many people will be playing your game. I don't see why you won't focus on your entire audience and just one small corner of it.
we had to concentrate on something, having console in mind we took the easiest way, if we find ways to support multires, we will do :)
