This is our first gameplay video of Metal Drift. We've been working on the game for several years now so we're excited to start showing it off. This video is some quick cuts from various skirmishes seen from in-cockpit and from the free-fly camera.
The gameplay is basically mechanized soccer. The players drive the ball into the other team's goal. It's a pretty simple concept, but it lends itself to a surprising amount of depth when you add in the different roles that the tanks can take on depending on how the players configure them.
There are a bunch of different weapons to chose from, each one playing very differently from the others. The video mostly shows the Pulse Cannon (twin barrels, rapid fire) which good for short range fights, the Ion Cannon (single barrel) which packs a lot of punch and is long-range, but has a slow reload, and the Missile Launcher, which is medium range and guided by painting the target with the aiming reticle.
The upgrades are where the roles come in though with everything from stealth, teleport, extra armor, sensors, team faking, and more, players can really execute many different strategies. We'll show more of all of these things in the coming months.
The ModDB video is pretty low-res and doesn't show the game very well since it's designed for a high res screen and the player just a couple feet away (PC). To see a high resolution video go to the youtube version (link below) and click "Watch in HD in the lower right corner.
Thanks for checking this out, and feel free to post any feedback on what you are seeing; we'd love to hear from you guys!
