6 months ago Desura was first announced. Since then we have made great progress and are readying ourselves to take the next step.

It is hard to believe that 6 months have passed since we first announced Desura. In that time we have been working furiously, and are nearly ready to rollout the next major update with a couple of major changes.

Branching enables developers to release many versions of their game or mod. For example you may want to release a free demo, a normal edition and premium special edition. Branching allows this. Branches can also be targeted to certain members and countries. For example if you want to release a "localized" German edition or a beta edition only for testers, you can create a branch for each of these releases. Each branch has its own settings, content, release date and price. Members will be shown only the branches they have access to and can install and switch between multiple branches should they choose to do so.

Shopping Cart

The most important element of Desura is a powerful purchase and gift system, so we have spent a significant amount of time making ours a joy to use. Our aim was to make it as secure and easy to use as possible, and when you purchase your first game you will see that we have achieved that. Buying and gifting multiple games in one transaction in your local currency has never been simpler.

What's Next

We are currently testing these features and will rollout this update in a few weeks. Once done, we shall be hard at work finishing the API and refining the system so we can begin adding content and launch Desura. Early August is our target date, we appreciate your patience so far!

They're probably talking about indie games there, since it's illegal to sell mods as far as I know.

Correct, mods are of course free - games can be free or paid, it is up to the developer to choose

Sigh... No.

But they allow developers to sell commercial games on Desura. Just like steam. All of the free mods will be free.

Will we be able to use this from within steam? I don't want to run steam, then run this in the background.
