Quite a lot has been happening here at FirstStrike the last few weeks. Alpha testing is going better than we anticipated, more on that very soon but for now we have a multitude of new renders for you and concept art.
Heres an update of the Concept works in Progress. FSDev| Hairwolf our resident artiste has been busy at work producing Quarren Fighter concepts, from uniforms to weapons he has really we believe captured the essence of the Quarren soldier. Heres some samples of his work.
FSDev | Hairwolf has submitted dozens of concepts for this fighter taking into account many aspects of Star Wars Lore and locations.
This fighter will work alongside the Mon Calamari, here are some more of his concepts.
Next up we have more contributions from FSDev| Lord Bandu, namely the SE-14r Scout Trooper Pistol beautfiully textured by FSDev| JayBiggs, the Homing Beacon used for target acquisition and the T-10 a first for FirstStrike this gun is actually found on Hoth and never included in any game thus far! Watch this space more of these items will appear for the die hard fan as our quest for authenticity will hit new heights! Lastly we have the defibrilator every Medics best ally on the Battlefield modelled by FSDev| Dutch Razor and sublimely textured by FSDev| Pumbaa.
Please see Gallery for other NEW UPDATES!
TCs fail without concepts. OK, "small" mods like Dodgeball Source and Sourceforts etc are great mods, and need no concept art - but if you're building an original storyline, even if it's based on an existing IP, concept art is a must to give direction to the mod. Especially if you are creating your own IP, concept art is critical.
Great work as usual :) Can't wait for FS, one of the best BF mods around imo.
wooh.. great concepts there!.. sadly most mods donĀ“t pay enough attention on good concepts!
Yeah but its hard to find good concept artists and it's probably the least important thing in a mod, it helps but it's not necessary. Anyway nice concepts and the weapon looks brilliant.
Looks great, probably going to buy BF 2142 this weekend, so I can play whenever release is.
Excellent work... Very nicely-worked concepts
That seems off to me, the calamri and the quarens don't really get along
"The Quarrens and the Mon Calamari HAD to get along to free Dac their native homeworld whilst under Imperial control."
So this is where we are pitching it.
Thanks for the comments guys and watch out for a "X"MAS SPECIAL!!!
I have to disagree with you there.
Concepts are probably THE most important thing when you are in the starting phase. Wither it be a commercial game or a mod.
If you do not have any concepts for how things are going to look, then you will be struggling badly when it's time to actually create any content.
You can't build a house without building the foundation for it first.
Anyway, the concepts look great!
What did you guys do the line art in? Illustrator?
Excellent work from your very talented team once again.. keep up the great work guys...
Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to say that concepts are extremely important... unless you have actual pictures of what you are modelling/sculpting, concepts are there.. without them, there is no continuity or control on how the mod looks and which direction the mod should take. Concepts are, as previously stated, the foundation of any game/mod. We have literally hundreds from our concepts artists and have driven the actual mod with the ideas these very talented artists come up with. We haven't show too many of them as we don't want to give too much away.. keep up the excellent work..
Yes so what your saying is all mods with fail without concepts. I know this isn't true because theres probably more successful mods without concept artists than there is with them. I model without concepts and I do just fine, I admit it would be easier to do with concepts but Im not the best at drawing...So unless I use somebody elses concepts I don't use them at all, but then if I did use somebody elses drawings it takes away the whole reason I enjoy modeling, using my own ideas and imagination. Like I said concept art is very helpfull but it's not the most important thing in a mod. For commercial games it's VERY important because they are creating a game that people are going to pay to play, where as a modification is built by people who enjoy editing games such as me. In my opinion a concept artist is a bonus if you have one, but alot of mods live without them.
Concept art is important but not the most important, its as important as the other material in the mod/game.
