Texture is about 80% complete. The Shree is about 2x as tall as the MC85, making it a very formidable warship.

Wait, the thing's covered in roof tiles? Interesting armor you have there...

The implementation of individual armor playing is a low-tech yet effective counter measure to energy weapons. Lasers simply burn away the protective plating while not harming the actual ship hull.

This was the inspiration:

What you're seeing in the picture is explosive reactive armor. Basically it's this: The plates are filled with explosives. When an rpg hits the tank, the explosives go off, redirecting the penetrating force of the rpg outward instead of inward, thus saving the tank.

If ERA would be applied to starships this size, as the packages are pretty small, you wouldn't be able to see them so clearly I think. Would be more like a haze or something, blending together into a shiny metal surface.

Wasn't going with the idea that it is explosive armor, just that it it is individual haphazardly placed armor plates, hence the low-tech construction.

The tank just gave me an idea, not exactly the same function.

Might be a cool function if their ships had something like that, reduced laser damage? Idk, ERA wouldn't work with lasers in terms of physics, then again, what does in star wars?

But aren't they not actually lasers in the literal sense? Turbolasers and even the so-called "laser" cannons are probably closer to being plasma or particle cannons since they don't fire actual lasers. If they did, we wouldn't see them and they'd travel in a beam at the speed of light.

And organic creatures can create black holes in order to block missiles.

This isn't physics, this is star wars!

So then ERA /could/ work with "lasers" :P

Still, I recall reading about turbolasers as firing a superheated cloud of plasma, or "solid state beam", or bolt... noone mentioned rays AFAIK

So has Warb been waiting for these, I'm trying to put a lot of care into crafting these ships just right.

I really want to capture the ruthlessness of the Ssi-Ruuvi through their textures. It should be a nice contrast against the highly polished and pristine Bakuran forces.

before making a statement such as this, you should really familiarize yourself with the ship. It looks quite accurate, Warb did an amazing job making this, he is the model master of our community.

I just realized it looked like a Mon Cal head, excellent work from Warb though

You misinterpreted my statement. I attributed the model's incomplete appearance to a helmet from another universe. My lighting was also bad at the time of the post so shut up.

So you have this professional sounding sentence and finish it with "so shut up". Lmfao

That, draven, is called style.

And even if warb made a near-perfect rendition, which it pretty much is, that doesn't mean the source material doesn't look like a helmet. I could easily imagine some medival armor with this as a helmet myself.

Description

Just a teaser while I work on completing the ship.

Rounded shaped models are some of the hardest to properly texture. I've been focusing on some of the hardest shaped ships first to texture to develop more proper techniques for developing texture styles.

Along with understanding proper UV methods and texture application, I have been trying to develop a unique texture style for each individual faction. The Mon Cals use a patchwork mosaic of armor plating, which lends to their artistic style of ship construction, durability and customization/conversion of star ships. The Imperials will use a very functional and precise armor plating, the Hutts a more rugged and worn thick armored, the Corellians a more composite/industrial style, the New Republic a more streamlined and finished appearance. The Ssi-Ruuvi use low-tech but rugged armor plating. They do not have he sophistication of ship design of other races, but their ships are strong wile also appearing alien appearance yet still using the same materials round within the galaxy as other races.

In short, the Ssi-Ruuvi are not pretty, they are rugged, crude and merciless, just as their style of fighting.

The Shree should be finished in the next few days. We thank you all for your patience while the team members finish exams, return from vacations and finish up other coding projects. We have new pictures on the way soon.

Please stay tuned...
