Worlds of Ultima: Lost Sosaria is an exciting new module for Neverwinter Nights that makes full use of all the best of the custom content available on the Internet.

Worlds of Ultima: Lost Sosaria is a mod for BioWare's' Neverwinter Nights , and will be built using the included Aurora toolset. It is based largely on events surrounding and immediately following Ultima 7: The Black Gate and Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds

Set in the lost Sosarian continent called The Lands of the Dark Unknown, it chronicles the journey of a party of the Avatar's old companions and close friends, those who joined with the Avatar in the struggle against the Fellowship and the Guardian and then subsequently vanished from the face of the planet in all future Ultima games. For example:

- where is Sentri in Ultima IX?
- where is Segallion in Ultima 7 or any Ultima therafter?
- did they just leave Gorn** to wander in that cave forever?
- whatever became of Tseramead
- whatever became of Trellek the Emp?
- whatever became of Spark?

Lost Sosaria chronicles a voyage not unlike the Avatar's.

Not willing to trust the veracity of the Scroll of the Guardian supposedly found amongst Batlin's belongings more than a year after the fall of the Fellowship, Sentri begins to investigate the rapidly dwindling remnants of the Fellowship throughout Britannia, and makes a shocking discovery (more on this later). Voyaging to an unknown land, he discovers the lost Sosarian continent, the Ophidian servants of Order (or now, the Guardian), and three distinct societies, including one defended by his former friend and companion Segallion. He also discovers a damning secret to this new land, and begins a race against time that may ultimately cost him, and many others, life itself. For while the Imbalance rages in the Serpent Isle, the true threat lies in Lost Sosaria

Those of you who thought this project dead are, or were, right…in a sense. You were right in the sense that through what I can only assume to be the most extreme bad luck on (my personal) record, both my primary and backup copies of the original Lost Sosaria project were lost.

In a way, though, this is beneficial.

Since I began work on the original Lost Sosaria, I’ve had time to learn a lot more about the Neverwinter Nights engine, and the custom content community has had time to mature, which means that there are some truly, staggeringly beautiful tilesets available out there now for use, which I intend to make full use of in my second go at my little idea here. But more on that later, once I have some screenshots to post.

More importantly, though, my aims in this project have matured. I wanted, with Lost Sosaria’s first iteration, to created a massive game world, before I realized just how much work that would involve, and how much coding would be necessary to hold that massive game world together. While my aims in this newer iteration of Lost Sosaria are by no means small, I think I’ve set for myself a more realistic development goal of only a smaller number of areas, with somewhat smaller cities. Also, because the Lands of the Feudal Lords are being covered in another Ultima remake now, I can focus only on creating one continent.

So my area development total is cut from around 2,000 (yes, you read that right…) to around 350 or 400 (at the very most). That still makes for a large world, however…if one uses BioWare’s standard tile size values, the map I’m working from encompasses an area of approximately 18.5 square kilometres.

Anyhow, keep checking back in the coming weeks. Primarily, I will be posting news at the project website, but this time I will try and remember to keep ModDB in the loop as well.

...and sorry, in turn, that this mod has been far too quiet for far too long. If you visit the website now, you'll be able to get all the updates on what has happened and why. For the moment, suffice to say that I'm still working on the module, although I've had to retrace my steps in doing so. But I've got more experience with NWN now, and better hak paks (I am most certainly NOT using the default tilesets, as the new screenshots will hopefully evidence!), so this re-imagining should move along at a quicker pace.

Of course, if anyone out there wants to *volunteer* to help make Lost Sosaria a reality...that's cool too.

I am interested in how will famous Ultima game end up looking in Aurora engine.
Hope you don't just re-use the same models and tilesets from NWN.
