This mod changes the gameplay of Homeworld 2 by dividing the map into territories that can be captured in order to produce ships and generate resources. Territories are connected by hyperspace gates (called "Jump Gates"), and travel between territories is only permitted by using the jump gates. If you try and move your ships outside of a territory without using a jump gate, the ships will explode. In a way, it turns Homeworld almost into a board game like Risk, where you need to move your "pieces" from territory to territory and gain control of the board.

The objective of the game is to gain control of territories, defend those territories from enemy players, and assault enemy territories to wrest control away from other players. Players are killed either when all their territories are captured, or when all their ships are destroyed, depending on game settings.

You can play against the CPU or against other people in a multiplayer game.

The mod is for the PC version of HW2 only... it won't work on Macs.

first sorry if something is misspelled, I speak Spanish and I am using a translator of google

Make it work like the mod Territories.

1. uncompress the zip to C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Data
2. Copy the Shortcut and change the Destination to "C:\Program Files\ Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe"-mod territories.big "
3. play and change the game mode

figured it, it's needed to extract "territories_common.lua" from "territories.big" and place to Data\leveldata\multiplayer\territories\
then it works by just placing the "territories.big" into \Bin\Gamerules\

You can extract the contents of (HW2) .big files with three or four tools, Unfbig and (spooky's) HW2ICArchive for example. Look for the tools on the RelicNews forums.

After extracting the file, he moved "territories_common.lua" into a file path he created manually (Data\leveldata\multiplayer\territories\) and then moved "territories.big" from the normal installation location (HW2\Data\) to HW2\Bin\Gamerules\

What I want to know is why he made it a gamerules mod instead of a normal mod.

This is a great mod, It adds a new level of depth and strategy to the game, it would be nice if you added maps with slightly larger territories.

Can't get it to work. The game closes without comment after loading a skirmish and I'm thrown back to my desktop as if nothing happened. Any ideas?

Try putting -luatrace in your command line shortcut and run it again. It will print an error message in the HW2.log file. If you post the error message here I can try to diagnose it.

Also make sure your game is patched to version 1.1
