that takes the hassle out of communicating with support, but i feel it limits the role of the support player. now support is just "guy who moves rockets around and lets other people shoot them" (as opposed to guy who moves and shoots rockets).
still, its an intersting concept.

Agreed; For backward compatibility in terms of gameplay, the gun/tube-based artillery units will still retain the old non-networked gameplay. So support player will still have full control over gun/tube artillery. Only the big system (rocket arty) with long range will use the new system.

Description

Infantry now remote-controls support role's heavy artillery, as a Forward Observer (FO) at the frontline.

Support player simply switches on the MLRS using defensive ability to "join" the fire support net. Infantry calls down the artillery strikes.
