FOREWORD
Valerie's Week is a HL1 mod I cobbled together in a few weeks from everything I felt during the spring of the year 2022. I didn't exactly have an end goal or a plan in mind, as you do with passion projects. Due to the unpredictable nature of our world, its satire is outdated already. That's why I unleash it into the world in its half-baked, pre-alpha glory. It provides half-an-hour of mindless fun, perhaps an hour if you go for all achievements.
I'm not sure if I'm ever finishing it, yet I don't want to toss it away. There are no major bugs or softlocks, however, if you find and report those, I would be more than willing to patch them out.
Most of the assets are placeholder, of course.
Only Monday is available in this build.

FEATURES
-A tiny corner of a doomer-esque Russian city to explore. You are free to approach the objectives at your own pace, and some of them have alternate routes.
-11 achievements to unlock and plenty of secrets to find. Take your time to explore every nook and cranny, or speedrun through objectives as quickly as possible.
-A peek into the weird world outside home.

GAMEPLAY TIPS
-Easy, Normal & Hard are all distinct experiences. Easy places loads of weapons everywhere so you can go nuts, while Hard requires you to know every little secret to play comfortably.
-There is a bonus achievement for being a pacifist (Achieved by not killing a single person, doing all the objectives & returning home)
-There are some extra weapons intended for other days. Impulse 101 that crap.
-The mod is quite fun to speedrun as I've tried to make most of the game speedrun-friendly. Try it out!

THIRD-PARTY CONTENT
-Based on Rykah's KO Mod. Check it out if you're a modder, cool stuff.
-Kick ripped from Half-Nuked.
-Also includes like a million stolen assets. Oh well.

Wasn't expecting a Russian Postal-like! Can't wait for more!

A very interesting and well-made mod. I always find mods that take place in urban settings and aren't about Generic Military People very interesting.

While I don't get a lot of the cultural references ("guys from the history club"?) I still enjoyed it. It's like Corkscrew Rules, but good! I also think that it's a very unique plot that I don't think I've seen in any other games, and I really do hope you continue working on it as it is a great mod!

My only complaints are that it was way too short, the text-to-speech voices are a bit meh (although it is funny to hear the TTS go "owuch :(") and I somehow managed to get lost a couple of times.

My advice is to maybe place some signs around, like in Postal 2, that direct the player and let them know if a certain way is blocked.

All in all, a very interesting mod that, as far as I know, is very unique for Half-Life. I enjoyed it a lot and can relate to the struggles of being trans a bit. (I'm nonbinary :V)

I've also made a quick video review of it as well:

Awesome stuff, thanks for feedback!
The history club is just a silly joke about "those" types of people at school being particulary interested in Ancient Rome/Nazy Germany history.
TTS is of course placeholder, but I'll replace it at the very last moment, when I'm absolutely sure that the script is final.
Signs is a very good suggestion, actually! I'll think of something.

Glad you managed to launch the mod, cause I couldn't replicate the issue, ha.
As for the draft, simply destroy it.

So I sunk about an hour into this trying to do everything, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's actually not bad at all!

For those wondering, it's essentially an attempt to make something like Postal 2 in the Half-Life engine, and it's surprisingly well done in that regard. Several objectives that you need to complete in a semi-open world, complications, side quests, that sort of thing.

If I had any suggestions (beyond MORE DAYS PLZ), it would be to add a way to see your current objectives, as they can be easy to forget, and to work on the lighting a little bit. Everything's currently fullbright, which isn't ideal, but given this is an alpha it's forgivable.

Overall, this was pretty entertaining and nowhere near as offensive as I was expecting (kudos for handling a transitioning main character as well as you did). I really hope this continues, I can see a lot of potential.

Thanks for a kind and detailed review! Objective UI is something I considered but it would require me to be more code-savvy. It's in my "I really wish I could but I currently can't" list.
Aesthetics would certainly get a step up once I get back to the project. I'll probably overhaul the lighting and add more detail to all the maps.
Anyway, thanks again, seeing someone having fun tells me that uploading the mod wasn't a mistake!
